Ninth Key (The Mediator #2)
by
Meg Cabot (Goodreads Author)
Everything is going great for Suze. Her new life in California is a whirlwind of parties and excellent hair days. Suze is so excited that she's willing to ignore her misgivings about Tad... particularly the fact that he's not Jesse, whose ghostly status--not to mention apparent disintere...more

The Ninth Key (Part Two of the Mediator Series)
Final Response by Iolanthe Brooks

I think Suze is just a confused girl trying to find her way. Only for her it’s even harder. Everyone is pressuring her to do different things, things a girl shouldn’t have to worry about. Her mom pressures her to go on dates, even if it means walking into traps and her mentor, Father Dominic, pressures her to help all these ghosts. If I were Suze, I’d be all confused inside.

After writing a scalding review on the first of this series I least expected my self to be reading the second one of it, except it seems that fate had other plans for me. I was on my way to Bangalore on a train journey of 36 hours with nothing to read except this one book I had with me. Finding it extremely difficult to kill time I turned my attention to this book as a last resort to survive the boredom. And here's my verdict: I'm glad I had nothing else to read.

A triple decker review. This is what you end up with when a series is so good that you read the books one right after the other.
In Ninth Key, Suze spends a good part of her time trying to figure out if Tad Beaumont (aka Red) is responsible for a murder. While the interactions between Suze and Tad were nice, I was much more drawn to the scenes with Suze and Jesse. Remember Jesse, he’s the ghost who lives in Suze’s room. Less Red and more Jesse! There are some completely unexpected twists t...more

This book was lame. I honestly can't believe I finished it - and not only that but read the rest of the series.
Have you watched Lost? This book is like those seasons that they were trying to drag the story out and you wonder - what the hell is the point? Yeah, this book has no point. We got NOTHING in the way of what we were really interested in, namely Jesse and his back story.

Suze Simon is just settling into her new life in Carmel, California. She is vice president of her class at Junipero Serra Mission Academy and is being invited to lots of parties. Ceritanya langsung bersambung dari akhir buku 1-nya. Kalau baca buku 2 langsung habis buku 1, terasa banget pengulangannya. Mungkin maksudnya biar pembaca yang langsung baca buku 2 tetep ngerti, tapi kebanyakan sih menurutku penjelasannya diulang-ulang.

This book is the second book of series by Meg Cabot of the Mediator series. I really enjoyed book because it's mysterious and i like to read mystery books. The main character is Suze and it continues from the ending of the first book. Suze is a mediator, in which she can see ghostly figures and help them solve their problems, so they could move on in life. There is a ghost figure that lives in Suze bedroom, and secretly has a little crush on him. One night, Suze was sleeping, when this host wome...more
Suze continues her adventure as a mediator this time around she is visited with a ghost who screams at her wanting her to find Red. With little information she ventures on the search for Red only to find out that Red is the father of a guy that she is dating Tad. Furthermore she realizes that not only Red is the father of a guy that she likes but that he is also a murderer who orchestrated numerous murders all for the sake of his company. As she continues to solve the mystery of Red and the murd...more
This volume was not as good as the first one. I am not sure why, maybe because there was not enough about the stepbrothers, or Cee Cee and Adams, or maybe because Tad, as a romantic interest, was not as interesting as Bryce was. When Tad's father made his appearance, I really thought the series was going to turn into a supernatural series where Susannah would have to fight against vampires, zombies, etc. Thankfully, it is still only about ghosts.

Yaps, setelah mengatahui Shadowland (buku pertama seri mediator) adalah bagian dari cerita berseri, jujur, saya agak kecewa karena kebiasaan saya: malas menunggu kelanjutan cerita. ;p
Akan tetapi, Meg Cabot memang nyaris tak pernah gagal memikat saya melalui kisah-kisahnya.

High Stakes/Ninth Key is way better than Shadowland, in my opinion. Meg Cabot has a nice writing for a quick read and that's exactly what this series is.
Everything is more interesting now since we already know some things. I think it was a mistake buying the first 2 books of The Mediator series and not reading another book between them, because I was seriously annoyed in the first pages of Ninth Key and all its retrospective thing. Another fun ghost butt-kicking romp. Seriously, this is a fun series. I love that even though the ghosts are rattling mirrors, appearing out of nowhere, and screaming at her, it's not creepy. I get creeped out really easy and I didn't have a single moment of it.
The major quest in this book is to find a guy named Red and tell him that he didn't kill the woman. Pretty vague, but that's why the book becomes fun. It's tracking down all the details that makes it interesting. I also love that Red tur...more

Der Geist, der nach wie vor in ihrem Zimmer, und in ihrem Herzen, herumspukt. Auf einmal taucht der Geist von Tads verstorbener Mutter auf und vermittelt Susannah eine geheimnisvolle Botschaft! I very much enjoyed the second book in The Mediator series, it was a awesome read.
Suzie tries to solve a mystery of the ghost that shows up in her bedroom demanding that she tells Red that it is not his fault. Suzie sets out to investigates and stumbles upon something that she did not expect.
I have this love hate relationship with Suzie; she is a very good character, she is smart and caring and she possesses many other characteristics that we like in heroines. But she has this annoying side; I...more

There are a lot of positive reviews of my friends about the series in Good reads. So I picked Shadowland (the first book in the series) a year ago. To be honest, I did like the book but that's all. I simply read it because it was quick read and I rather not to leave a book unfinished. Then, for my birthday this year, a friend bought me a book with contains the first two novels in the series. Another fine example of Meg Cabot's prolific talent. I am not always fond of authors who have so many books (72!) and series (11!), but I make an exception for Meg Cabot. She can write about a size 12 or 14 not being fat and make me laugh at the mysteries that the character finds herself in. She can write about the Princess Diaries, she can tell me about the Boy Next Door.
My absolute favorite story Meg can tell me, is The Mediator series. It's a little reminder of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Exce...more

I have to say that I liked this second book in The Mediator series even more than the first. As good as the first one was, this one had an even better story line. It was more of a mystery with lots of twists and turns which gave it a better plot.
Suze is awakened by a screaming ghost of a woman one night, who gives her a message to give to someone named Red. She has no idea who Red is and is given no clues. So her investigation into finding out who this Red actually is begins. She soon discovers...more

Final Book Response:
Suze is very self confident. She is always downing Jesse and Father Dominic's help with mediation. Jesse even says "You think you don't need anyone, that you can handle everything on your own." (p. 117) and Suze replies "I can handle everything on my own."
Is Suze and people in general so self-confident because they may be special/different? I mean Suze thinks she can control everything, possibly because she thinks being the mediator is a big deal, and so it's unique.

High school sophomore Susannah Simon - Suze for short - is getting used to her new home in southern California following her mother's remarriage. It's a pain living in the same house as three annoying stepbrothers, but at least she's making friends at school and even has met a guy who seems interested in her. But as usual, her role as a mediator - a human who helps guide wayward spirits to their final resting place - gets in the way of her social life. One night, the ghost of a woman appears to...more
This review is generally for the whole Mediator Series by Meg Cabot. I picked up these books back in middle school, it was one of the few things i read. I was very fond of Meg Cabot, and i still am. With an exception of the fact that i grew out of her cheesy Princess Diaries books and moved on to more of her young adult work like Queen of Babble.

Shadowland was a good start to this series, and it only got better with Ninth Key. The plotting gets better, the evil villains get... eviler? And Suze gets awesomer.
The plot in this book had tons of twists and turns, which I loved. We got a little deeper into all these mysteries, but the only thing was that the plot didn't really revolve around ghosts and paranormal stuff. It was about, in part, these mysterious murders, and all I could...more

Need I say more? :)
There were so many funny lines in this book, but I picked two to share with you!
"I may have been dead for the past one hundred and fifty years, Susannah, but that doesn't mean I don't know how people say goodnight. And generally, they keep their tongue to themselves."
Score! Way to embarrass poor Suze, Jesse.
The next is dialogue between Jesse and Suze :P
Jesse: Cat. This is Susannah. Susannah, meet the cat.
Suze: Spike.
Jesse: I beg your pardon?
Suze: Spike. That cat...more

For a second book in a series, Ninth Key was fun to read but it didn't wow me. I expected this to pack more of a punch then it did and ended up having a couple very big problems with the way the plot of the story is developed.
Ninth Key has its good moments, especially when Suze is kicking butt, but there were to many instances when the obvious solution to a problem would be overshadowed by where Cabot wanted the storyline to go. The convenience factor of some of the events were just too obvious...more

The book "Ninth Key" is a very good book! I like it very much! This book talks about Suze meeting a woman that is a ghost and the woman told Suze to tell "Red" that it wasn't his fault that she had died. Suze wanted to ask her more about "Red" in order to find him but the woman vanished away without having any idea on who "Red" was. She thought that "Red" was a rich business man so he went to deliver the message for the dead woman. After seeing "Red" and delivering the message, she finds that "R...more
I'm done! Meg Cabot's an great quick read author, and her stories are always satisfying. I don't have much to say about this book (it was like the first one).
A few quick comments:
1. I love Jesse. He's so great, and funny, and I find I'm always waiting for Suze's next encounter with him. I particularly enjoyed the scene where he catches Suze and Tad kissing! Can't Jesse kiss her already?
2. Suze's relationship with her family and friends are so funny and great. They're a great bunch of characters!...more
