JESS MASTRIANI

Knew she wasn't going to be able to hide her psychic powers from the U.S. government forever. But she never thought that she and Dr. Krantz, the special agent brought in to convince Jess to join his elite team of "specially gifted" crime solvers, would have something in common.

When a local boy's disappearance is attributed to a backwoods militia group, it

Jessica "Jess" Mastriani was never what anyone would call a normal girl, but ever since she was hit by lightning, she can find anyone if she sees a picture of them. Since getting this new talent, Jess' life was made miserable by the media and the military, so Jess pretended that she can't find anyone anymore and so is officially without powers. However, there are a few people that know she can find people and most of the people in town, as well as the FBI, are pretty sure that she is faking. So...more

Jess Mastriani, 'Lightning Girl' and heroine of three previous novels (When Lightning Strikes, Code Name Cassandra and Safe House) is back - and this time she's facing a truly evil foe. After thwarting a murderer at her own Ernie Pyle High School, Jess knows she's not going to be able to keep the Feds off her back for much longer. Even though they can't have any tangible proof, it's a given that the FBI agents who seem to haunt her every step know that Jess has been lying about losing her freaky...more

In SANCTUARY, Jessica Mastriani takes on a white supremacy group who has already killed her new neighbor's teenaged son. When the local authorities fail to rescue a young Jewish boy who has been kidnapped, Jess and her maybe-boyfriend Rob infiltrate the group to stage a rescue of their own. Can they rescue young Seth or will they all end up as bodies in a cornfield?

This was the first time in the series that I really wondered how Jess (and Rob) were going to pull things off without ending up dead...more

This. Book. Was. So. Intense. From the first page, it had me hooked, and I finished this in a day and a half. Jess was especially witty, Rob seemed especially hot, and the entire thing fit into one action-packed book. Filled with angry motorcycle gangs, evil backwoods militia groups, and creepy FBI agents, this book will definitely have you on the edge of your seat.

I love Jess. She's a great female lead, telling the story with sarcasm that has me wanting to roll on the floor laughing. She's inde...more

Sanctuary was yet again an enjoyable read out of the series. It wasn't as enjoyable as the last book, mostly because the plot was predictable. As soon as the beginning of the story centered around the Mastriani's African American neighbors I knew this book would be about hate crimes. I think Meg got lazy on this one. She should have thrown a few curve balls in there before going, "okay this is a hate crime plot."

But I did like the subject matter, especially the part where even Jess herself has...more

This book is about a girl, who is called Jessica. Jessica have a special power, she could find missing people with her special powers. In her neighborhood, she is called the lightning girl. This book started with a boy missing, who stayed opposite to Jessica. While Jessica was going back home from her boyfriend's house, she saw the boy, who was dead, killed by someone. The case was under investigation by the police, but Jessica felt that she must do something about it. Because she had a feeling...more

Not Cabot's best work. Predictable, cliche, and somehow the chemistry between Jess and Rob isn't that great. Still, I enjoyed it.

Lightning Girl's prickly premonitions take a turn for the worse when she realizes that all of the children going missing are ethnic minorities...and the top suspect is a local, white supremacy group: the True Americans.

Oh, and her old friend, the Government, is back for a visit. Poor Jess is personally involved, this time, and can't decide what to do: wait for the professionals, who are BOUND to screw things up, or deliver her own brand of rough justice with Rob's help?

I think you know the answe...more

At First Sight: Strange things are happening in Jess Mastriani's little town. First, her new neighbor Nate Thompkins goes missing and is later found dead on Thanksgiving; then the local synagogue is vandalized and another kid goes missing.

Jess doesn't want to get involved - she really only wanted to spend Thanksgiving with her almost-boyfriend Rob Wilkins and avoid her aunt Rose as much as possible - but when things start to point toward a local, crazy militia group, Jess decides that what happ...more

After a local boy is murdered and another one disappears, both differing in a way from the rest of the population in the small Indiana town, Jess is determined to find the guilty and once again, she fearlessly thrusts herself and Rob into deadly danger in order to help others.

Jess is definitely my favorite character of Meg's. This story took place in the span of only 3 days but it was INTENSE. I'm beyond stoked to read the final installment.

5/5

The beginning was kinda boring. Though I have to say it was a good book. My favorite part was where she jumped over the collapsed bridge with the truck. I was bursting out laughing. Then how she describes the way to the hospital and crashing through the glass windows. I had to bite my lip to stop laughing. It was a good book but the ending wanted me to read the fifth and last book right away. Over all it was a good book.

Jessica is still trying to keep her powers underwraps. But when her neighbor is found dead on Thanksgiving and a young boy goes missing, Jess will do whatever it takes to find him--even inlist the help of Rob and his fellow Grits--to stop a group called the "True Americans" from killing him.

Suspenseful and entertaining. A quick YA read. Fourth in a series.

In which a girl from Indiana, with psychic powers, is pulled into an adventure involving racist murders, and religion opposition, this is another jewel in Meg Cabot's collection, and I am surprised it hasn't gotten more attention. The girl is a hard core honey, with a soft spot. The adventure is creative and original, and is written like an actual teenage girl's diary.

This book had the most action amongst all of the other books in this series. It is one of my favourites because finally Jess tells her parents about dating Rob.
The best thing about these books is that no matter how serious the situation is there is always some bits of humors in it.

can't wait to read the last book !

This on and off relationship I have with Jess Mastriani is beginning to be tiring, for the last 30 pages, I honestly just scanned the book and looked for the ending.
I don't know it's just that, I know she is stubborn, but it is beginning to be irritating, but problems won't arise if she isn't at all that persistent, right?

This series unfortunately fizzled in the last book. The main character was sassy and funny in the first three books; in this one she just sounded dumb. The best friend was funny & had a genius-level IQ; in this book she was a prop.

thing is, all of megs heroins are SAME! jess, mia, samantha, susanah they're ALL THE SAME!! so it was like reading the same thing again and again. but i liked her sense of humor and her childish ignorance and of course rob. but doug was my fave :)

The reason why I didn't give this book a high rating was because it was predictable. I liked how the author gave the character Jess superpowers like the power to find missing children. If I had powers, I would go back in time and change things. In the book, true Americans were mentioned. These were the people who hated other races and discriminate against all races except the white race. This reminded me of the segrergation laws after the civil war. The true Americans captured a little Jewish bo...more

I didn't like this as much as the other books in the series, mostly because the bad guys were sooooo creepy. I didn't enjoy reading about them. But it was still really good, and I'm excited to read the last book/sad that it will be over.

I gave it a 3 because I enjoyed the story but i found a lot of typos and printing mistakes (bad editing). Also, the writing was kind of choppy in parts, which made it a little confusing sometimes.

I thought this was the weakest of the series so far. I normally like Jessie a lot, but she kinda went off her nut with the stupidity in this one. Oh well. I hope the 5th one is better.

At first, we are introduced to this interested mystery where a group is killing some children in their town. The killer(s) slaughters their victim, burns a symbol on their hand and then dumps them in a corn field. I was intrigued. However, later, the mystery turns out to be nothing too interesting and Jess and Rob save the day. Overall, it was a nice read.

I read this when I was a teenager and I did enjoy the series! I liked how they were written.

Meg has done justice on the characters... I still have the books on my kindle :)

Jess might be one of my favorite narrators. EVER.

This book felt different from the other books. It's pacing was much different, but I still enjoyed it.

I like how the bad guy ends up being okay at the end. The romance the author throws in isnice, too. And the way Jess can't shoot a gun and has problems with the True Americans makes her seem like she's more capable, in my opinion.
Chanpreet
Amazing! Lots of gratuitous violence and more Jess and Rob, makes me a happy reader. I'm a little saddened knowing this is the second to last book.
Jams
Meg Cabot should definitively stick to fluffy princesses. Jess sounded waaay to much like Princess Mia to talk about racism and gore. It was weird.

Librarian note: AKA Jenny Carroll (1-800-Where-R-You series), AKA Patricia Cabot (historical romance novels).

Meg Cabot was born on February 1, 1967, during the Chinese astrological year of the Fire Horse, a notoriously unlucky sign. Fortunately she grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, where few people were aware of the stigma of being a fire horse -- at least until Meg became a teenager, when she flun...more
