Perfect for : Personal Use, Great for the cynic in your life, Bible Study
In a nutshell: I immediately liked the author - his candidness and honesty was refreshing, and while I could not relate to everything he wrote about, he sounds alot like one or two people I know well! I was able to gain some insight into my own life and relationships from the author. He talks openly about his life from the time he was seven, through school, college, marriage and parenthood. I'll hand it to him - he was able More...

Assaulted by Joy is my first ARC that I am reviewing. What an exciting book! The question that was posed when I was asked if I would review this book was "Is this the perfect gift for the man in your life?" and I must answer with a resounding "YES!" It is nearly impossible to imagine how difficult it was for Stephen and Shelley to transition from their married life to the parents of quadruplets. However, the grace and wisdom he communicates reveals the caliber of people they are. I highly recommend this book. It is a great reality check for young parents to realize that no matter how s

This book wasn't what I was expecting. Rather than having more a theological expression, it was a narrative of the authors up and down through his life that brought him more into then out of cynicism and into joy. Namely having quadruplets.

I love the premise of the book, but honestly, the writing reminded me of the atrocious "book" I had to write for my Advanced Comp class in college. It's very chronological; I just couldn't get into it.

I loved loved loved it and can totally relate to the author on his world and religious view points. It really excited me when I find someone else out there with similar perspectives.

Short review: This is a short memoir (just the right length) to illustrate a point. The author is trying to show where we should be looking for meaning. He finds that God pursues him, using the daily joys of life, and reminds him why the struggle matters.
This is a good example of a "grow up and be a man" book. Not a Tim "The Toolman" Taylor, kind of man, that tries to be cool and manly. But the More...
