I know. I know. Put this guy down. He knows leadership.
This is a step by step to understand how two people with the same skills and ability can wind up with a different outcome.
He's such an easy read. AND!
One of my favorite examples- page 74- 'Make the Right Decisions,'"shoulder a deserved blame" and "subdue emotion." When you lead a team, their fault is yours.
You can want to expect a certain outcome from a 'one on one' but how effective is that really if the second party does not understand an...more

I don't generally books like this but I liked it and I would recommend it. It makes you think about how you approach problems, failure, and success to see where there is room for improvement in your attitude. Lots of great quotes and backup stories. One thing I really liked is his point that we often listen to ourselves...but we never talk to ourselves. Meaning...we allow negative thoughts to creep in, without pro-actively telling ourselves good and positive things.
What did I think of the book...not much. The author is a supposedly successful motivational speaker, but as one reader in a group of four who discussed the book -- none of us liked it. The book is ghost written, and is without original thought. The book is mostly of quotes and anecdotes by famous and historical figures, and pop icon references. In-between the author attempts to interject (very briefly...and poorly) what he believes are the proper steps to making a difference in your own life and...more
My second read of this short but potent book was even better than the first and I love the W Clement Stone quote John Maxwell uses as the theme of his book..."There is little difference in people, but the little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative."
Very good book. Very good advice about personal attitude, success, and failure. I found the chapter on failure very helpful. It is true that it is important it is to understand failure and use it as a stepping stone for success. Also, very helpful the "never give up" attitude change, and tips on how to rise from failure every time we'll fail.
It seems to me that the books by John C. Maxwell tend to get repetitive. There are several core truths that he says, and then he winds up saying them over and over again in different ways.
That's what makes the so effective.
We learn best through repetition. Using stories, and a chatty and conversational approach, Maxwell works hard to drive his point home. And does. By the end of this book, I really have vowed to work on my attitude. I really would like to be a difference maker.

John Maxwell is a great author. A lot of his books have the same kind of things to say but this one hits specifically on the attitudes that we should cultivate and the ones that we should stay clear of.
I definitely recommend this book for anyone who is desiring to change their viewpoint on their life.
