The first time I read this book I just loved it. I read it at the time when I was asking myself questions regarding 'What to do with my life?'.
I found the book very energizing, giving me a lot of inspiration and motivation to go on and many answers to my questions.
When I read the book the second time, it didn't seem to have the same effect.
PS! Who is looking for great literary value, will be disappointed. Sharma is no writer, but if you can focus on the mes...more

Read this book if you want to add a new dimension to your life. It is the first spiritual book I read. Usually I didn’t go for such books for the reason that seeking more into religion would cover it. Now I realize that regardless of your religion, these books contain vital knowledge and information that you might encounter for the first time in your life. One topic which was innovative and influential is the inner spiritual serenity, self-knowledge and self-control. I always had a glimpse of ...more

I didnt quite picked up reading The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma until I noticed a friend was wanting to read it but hadn't had time for it. My first thought was the title is too gimmicky. I realized that I was being closed to new ideas by literally judging a book by its cover and title so I finally bought a copy. I’m glad that I read it as it gave an interesting look into an age-old wisdom in a easy-to-read fable.

This highly marketable philosophy has nothing but old wine in new bottle! Thanks to Robin Sharma, the age old oriental eastern values have find place as an extension in the materialistic town. Even these values able to find takers when it was packaged neatly; B-school buddies will cheer for sure!

The virtues discussed in the book certainly are worthy pursuits and fall into what I think of as common sense living, though certainly not within the realm of common practice. The techniques are also worth considering, like the 10 Rituals of Radiant Living discussed in the chapter dealing kaizen, a Japanese word meaning constant and never-ending improvement. However, I do think, and the author states this as well, that we must each follow our own path when adopting these techniques, lest we be...more

Robin Sharma has done a sweet job in that the book is short! Even though a little simplistic the book is engaging and a breezy read.
This book is a about a lawyer, who has a successful practice but an empty life. A life threatening incident forces him on a path of self discovery. The book is about his experiences in the Himalayas with a band of enlightened monks. He returns to his old friend and narrates his findings and that makes up most part of the book.

I finally read this book, languishing on my bookshelves for a few years, after a suffered a recent burn out at work, thankfully not on the scale as Julian Mantle, the teacher. It summarises the lessons taught in several self help books I've read (simplify your life, 7 habits, secret), and includes wisdom of ancient eastern philosophy. There are several quotable quotes, titled tips and dialogue of self reflection by the narrator. I first read it at one sitting, through the night and early morning...more

What started out as an entertaining and inspirational read, slowed down, without my noticing, so that by chapter nine I was struggling to remain interested. By chapter eleven, I've all but given up.
This book is described on the cover as "A captivating story that teaches as it delights" and for the first half or so, I'd have agreed. But it becomes more academic and dry as it goes on, and there's little there to hold my interest.

This was the first book ever that I read from Robin Sharma.
It inspired me to look at business in a different way, for although from a spiritual point of view (in my case) it did not bring great novelty, it was still "NEW" in the sense that it was the first time that I read this type of literature which coaches business men or entrepreneurs to look at their activities with a different attitude, a changed approach to life and wealth, tapping on new and refreshing ...more

This book is chock full of great quotes. I actually listened to this book at the gym, not just once, but twice. Then I ordered the book so I can write all those wonderful quotes down. Remember I only give 5 stars to books I want to own. :-)I loved it - and bought it.

Awful self help book of the worst kind. I read this because someone gave this to me and I felt oblidged to read it. Sharma's thinly disguised self-help parable is a compilation of ideas borrowed from other books wrapped up in a tale of new age eastern mysticism - misrepresenting Buddhist thought as work harder self-help along the way. I've nothing per se against self-help, I'm for whatever gets you through the night, but I suspect that a bit like diet books they are the sort of things people ...more

I was walking through the aisles of my local bookstore and noticed this book displayed face-up on a table. Its title caught me, so I stepped back to pick it up and flash through to gather a sense of whether I wanted to read it in greater depth or not. I enjoy philosophic and inspirational books as a way of honing my ethics, of reinforcing or improving my ideology so I bought "The Monk..." and I'm glad I did! This is a motivating, palatable book that's easy to read as a story, filled...more

Self-help books seem to be a dime a dozen. This book is actually fiction with the noble aim of improving the person who is reading it like a self-help book.
The book itself centers around the story of a former big-shot lawyer. The lawyer had a self-described wake-up call after a heart attack. This rude awakening led him to sell his possessions and to look for a more meaningful life from certain sages in the East. Of course, the rest of the book is him recounting what he learned.

Have you ask yourself what's your dharma? This book provokes my inner thoughts and feelings about my dharma. I like some of the quotes highlighted in the book...
Happiness is a journey. It is a choice that you can make. Enjoy the special moments that everyday offers because today, this day is all you have.
Always remember the power of laughter. Like music, it relieves life's stresses and strains. Keep a vow of silence.
Live each day as if it is your last. I tell mysel...more
