It reminds me of some books from Herman Hesse when we're presented with the main character's growing pains.
I specially like that quote when she says something to the effects of "After my father died, I began to think, and I realized first it was my mother, then my father, which left me as the next one in the list of people to die". It's not a very precise quote but I remember that was the idea it wanted to transmit.

Saaie boek met een nogal negatieve, zwaarmoedige sfeer. Wordt naar het einde toe wat positiever en daardoor vlotter leesbaar
