Recommends it for: scientists, engineers, applied mathematicians, students of numerical analysis
Shelves: science
As with many textbooks on science, I use this book as a tool (in this case a borrowed tool), not reading the book from cover to cover, but rather using it to read up on whatever part of it I happen to need at the moment. I have certainly not read all parts of the book, but find those parts I have read a nice mathematically inclined description of the central conepts and methods of numerical analysis. The text's focus is very much on the what and why theoretical aspects of numerical analysis, rat ...more

This standard CS text stands the test of time. I don't have need to apply it terribly often in my line of work, but when I do, it's irreplaceable.
Iuri Baldaconi
Very good book. The Portuguese translation is not so careful, though. And there's a certain lack of mathematical rigor in it...
Ira Burton
A great text on numerical analysis for engineers. A bit light on the mathematics, but great information on implementation.
Gary Bacchus
Good notes on implementation here.
