Well, Slash, holy fuck man! I sort of want to take you under my wing and give you a hug dude. But first, I want you to have a shower because you are dirty. And I don't mean that in a "dirty-sexy" way. I mean it in a "remember Pig-Pen from Charlie Brown, how filthy he was?" way. I would like to introduce you to soap and laundry detergent and, what the hell, underwear. I get that living on the road, touring, has its challenges. And I get that junkies are, well, junkies. But ser

(I give this an extra star for the full page color photos: Slash is a sexy, sexy man). What's behind the untamed hair and top hat? We’ve all wondered. The erratic curls part just enough to reveal sexy full lips. Is he purposely teasing us? Is he hiding something? Slash (lead guitarist of Velvet Revolver and the former Guns n Roses) is one of the most enigmatic musicians of our time, and if you've ever been enthralled by the opening notes of Sweet Child O' Mine or wanted to know more about t

I love rock. Real rock. Not Hannah Montana pop stuff but rock. Some good bands are Guns N' Roses, Van Halen, Kiss, Velvet Revolver, Metallica, Jimi Hendrix, and Queen. Those are probably my favorites. Slash is in two of those bands I have mentioned above, Velvet Revolver and Guns N' Roses and he is probably the BEST GUITARIST EVER, Ediie Van Halen though is part of my favorite band so he gets more praise.

I am a huge gnr fan and I have to say that I am terribly disappointed with this book. I could not wait to be done with it. I always found Slash to be, besides Axl, the most articulate of the band. This is the reason I wanted to read this book. But his articulation didn't lend itself well to the written word.
This book is so badly written that is reads like a blog or email message (badly written blog or email message, that is). The storytelling is horribly tedious and focuses on More...

I swear, I do read more than just rock biographies! just not lately I guess.
I asked for this book for Christmas and my mom told me she was totally embarrassed about buying it. personally, I don't think anyone should be ashamed of being associated with old school Guns N' Roses (though being associated with the current incarnation is more than a little embarrassing -- didn't Axl recently get his ass handed to him by Tommy Hilfiger?).

I actually enjoyed this book more than the three stars would indicate because I'm a big GNR fan and enjoy reading about people drinking, fucking and doing drugs until their livers, blood vessels and wangs fall off. But asking Slash to 'author' an auto-biography is predictably going to end up like this:
"I picked up a guitar when I was young and was good at it. Then I had sex with a bunch of girls and did a lot of drugs. Then I drank a gallon of vodka every day. All the while, I w More...

It seems excessive, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. From his childhood hanging around David Bowie, to his BMX days, to Guns and then Velvet Revolver, we follow Slash through his highly entertaining life. He was a vagrant who bounced around from place to place, and all he wanted to do was play guitar. We hear about the highs and lows of Guns N’ Roses, and we get new insight into Slash’s relationship with Axl, as well as what happened that infamous night and St. Louis. (and another night i

Of course, I'm automatically biased when it comes to Slash. He's my favorite guitarist and I've got a lot of respect for the man.
I found his autobiography to be a genuinely good read. When Slash speaks, he always comes across as an intelligent, articulate person, and nothing has changed in the book. You can tell he was expecting some backlash over parts of this book, as he stresses several times that he wishes Axl no harm and has the utmost respect for him. You can't blame him for ne More...

I have to believe the pitch to the Harper Collin publishing house went something like this: Tommy Lee "wrote" two books, I am sober an average of 5% of the time these days, Scott Weiland is a mess again, and Axl is still working on Chinese democracy somehwere . . . so yeah, I want to write a book. What's that, you say you love the idea? Great. Make sure the ghost writer likes to drink. Oh yeah, and about the money . . . .

I'm of the opinion that most rock musician's stories are, by virtual necessity, identical. Young up-and-comer has a passion for playing, scrapes by, rises through the club scene, and then in their mid-20s finds himself suddenly famous and with more money, women, and drugs onhand than ever might have been imagined. Such is the case in "Slash," the legendary ax-slinger's autobiography (co-ghostwritten by a Rolling Stone contributor), detailing his hellraising days from youth right up t

slash was on loveline, back when it used to be on mtv in the mid 90's, and he smoked the whole time he was on the show, dishing advice to quick boys and oversexed girls, and his face was covered in hair, as usual, and midway through a sentence he leaned over and his cigarette fell into his boot and the crowd gasped and then got real quiet for about 20 seconds and then he leaned over, pulled the still smoking cigarette out of his boot, put it back into his mouth, leaned back and said "happen

This is for real the best biography I have ever read (okay to be honest I haven’t read that many biographies in my life but I’m working on that). The cover of this books reads “It seems excessive…but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen” and that is the most accurate statement ever. Every chapter I was literally shocked and kept thinking to myself this can’t actually be true. Reading all the things this man and the rest of the Guns N Roses guys did, knowing that they lived through it and knowin

I am *almost* done with this - I can't put it down. I started to read it as a joke, because my husband picked it up at a Goodwill somewhere -
Anyway, I was all set to make fun of it for being nonliterary, but - it turned out to be completely addictive (yeah I said it). This proves it, for me - content is, ultimately, all you need.
This man has some serious content, too. This man has, like, so many adventures - when you're reading, you think, "Okay, he's probably abou More...

If you are a fan of G'nR this would be a must read. If this were written by someone in a band I wasn't a big fan of I'd have given it a lower rating. Slash basically skips right over the most interesting reasons for a fan to read the book. He talks of women without much detail or in passing. He talks of doing a lot of drugs, but again, not in detail. He talks of his feud with Axl, again not in detail. A lot of these stories revolve around a period of time when he probably didn't know what

This was a lot more fun to read than I thought it would be. The narrative meanders here and there (as you'd expect a veteran of the 80's rock scene) but those tangents are always interesting and juicy. If you've spent any time in Hollywood you'll love the references to specific places all over the city that hold significance in rock history. Anthony Bozza does a great job of weaving tales of 1980's Hollywood mayhem with Slash's own voice - you can hear his distinctive drawl in certain passages.

I was really dubious about reading Slash's self-titled autobiography when it first hit the shelves. Guns N' Roses remain one of my favourite bands of all time, and I really didn't want to learn anything that would damage the high esteem in which I hold their music. I've intentionally ignored and blocked out any knowledge of bad behaviour, and I was reluctant to burst my happy bubble by delving into Slash's autobiography. Alas, it's been several years since publication, and curiosity finally got

Drug, sex, and Rock & Roll are all captured in Slash's unique autobiography. Slash takes you on a rollercoaster ride that only gets crazier and crazier the more you read. To his early childhood and his opening gigs with Guns N’ Roses, Slash gives you a clear vivid image of what it’s like to be a rock star. Slash covers everything in his autobiography from partying and trashing hotels to Guns N’ Roses breaking up. Slash is a book for anybody it’s easy to read funny and honest. Just because it se

First of all this book is very honest. Very honest about being in a rock band, the personality struggles between the various members, and what it is like being a junkie. You feel some sympathy for him, but he takes responsibility for a lot of the problems in his life. If you ever want to be a rock star you need to read this first; hopefully you can avoid a lot of problems in your career. The biggest and best message of the book for me was what it takes to be great, in this case the guitar.

This is one of the best books i've read this year . I found out about this book after doing some research and it talks about Slash a famous guitar player who is extremely famous and is mostly known for his work in Guns' and Roses and some of his later work. This book talks about Slash's life starting from him gaining fame, money, and recognition through BMX riding and Guitar playing at the same time. Eventually the book moves to more modern stages of his life such as his role in Guns' and Roses.

3.5 stars would probably be more accurate, but I'm not quite willing to go to 4 stars. I really enjoyed some parts of this book, but the main thing that I took away from it was that it was LONG. Slash really does chronicle everything that happened in his life, starting from childhood, through the formation, success and collapse of GnR, and through his wanderings after leaving GnR and the formation of Velvet Revolver.

This book has to be one of best book I've ever read about an artist just trying to make it and get noticed. If you ever see this book on the shelf at a library or in a book store, its a book that you don't have to think twice about getting. If you do, you're going to kick yourself later I passed up getting it once and it took me years to find a copy :P

Yeah, so this is my second ex-Gunners memoir this month and screw what you're thinking, buddy, if Izzy wanted to pen a tell-all I'd be ready to start in on it tomorrow.
And Slash's book is good. It's more of a straight rock memoir than Adler's. He makes his childhood sound interesting; he and Adler, if they're to be believed, were both completely insufferable delinquents. He tells a good story about the origins of Guns, and he writes about the extremes of his drug abuse (post-Lie More...

I have been meaning to pick this up to read for quite some time. It's only NOW that I finally got around to it. Was it worth the wait? Yeah. It's a pretty good read, especially for anyone that is a fan of Guns N' Roses, Slash or just the Rock and Roll lifestyle. It's all there and then some. I thought I knew everything there was to know about GN'R. There were a lot of things that I didn't even know about till I read the book. I took a lot of what I heard about the band over the years with a gra

I read this in about three days. I seriously couldn't put it down. I expected him to talk a lot more about Axl, but it turns out Axl didn't party very much with the rest of the band. Aside from being late all the damn time to rehearsals and shows, there apparently isn't all that much of interest to say about Axl. That's okay, though. PLENTY of old-school metal craziness to read about, anyway. :D

This book was an entertaining insight into the mind of the very reclusive lead guitarist as well as the inner workings of Guns N Roses and just exactly what went down. I did find there to be a slight lack of a cohesive narrative structure, the chronology was a bit off, and the chapters seemed to bounce around in the timeline..but what do you expect from an ex junkie musician? The stories were wild, at times surreal, astounding, and downright fun to read. Slash also not only has a terrific sense

Although the prose is a little patchy, changing voices subtly over the course of the text, it's pretty well-written. I'm assuming that the co-writer is providing more detail to what Slash was telling him, and for the most part it's not detectable.
I could have done without the ubiquity of "...but I'll tell you more about that later." That and the repetition of certain facts made it seem at times like a serialized novel.

Firstly how is this man still breathing??
Dont get me wrong i was openly expecting drug abuse and general debauchery, but wow! The first few chapters did leave me a bit open mouthed.....

I am a big biography fan and I alwasy find rock start bios very narcissistic (I know it is a bio so it is supposed to be all "you you you) but I ususally find rock stars pick and choose what they feel like telling. THis book does not do this. I have never been a die hard Guns n' Roses fan, I really know nothing of the band but I picked it up because I thought he would have an interesting life. Like a good bio, it goes into detail from the start of his life till the end (or current times). H
