Jan Brett's intricate illustrations against a beautiful papyrus background make a stunning picture book of a favorite story-this time featuring Noah's granddaughter. As the floodwaters rise, she helps take the animals onto the ark and get them settled down. But it's not easy when giraffes are sleeping next to pandas and lions are curled up with turkeys. Finally the gentle...more

This book is heavy with beautiful, rich, intriguing illustrations and light on Biblical content.

There is no mention of God, the evil of men that caused the flood, Noah's sacrifice after leaving the ark, or God's promise to never flood the earth again (though there is a rainbow in the last illustration, it is not explained).

Though some ideas fall under artistic/ creative license, like the theory that men and animals on the ark slept more than normal (God could have made this happen to keep every...more

This is the simplest form of a Noah's Ark story I've ever read. So simple it actually leaves out all the turmoil of evil men, of Noah being laughed at for being obedient to God--well, it even leaves out God! If this were the only version of Noah's Ark to have in my library, then I'd give it one star or less, but because I have dozens of versions to choose from, I'd have to say that I'm quite enchanted by this version.

First of all, it's hard to explain to a little one that there were enough mean...more

I would have given this book 2 stars just for the illustrations, but the secularization of the story made me too angry. Let me make clear that I am not in any way a biblical literalist. I have no problem with personalizing the story with a few details. But when you purposely leave out a major character in the story (God), it is not the same story. If Ms.Brett finds God unpalatable, she should write a story of her own instead of ripping off biblical literature. It puts me in mind of a letter to t...more

GREAT illustrations, but I don't really like this version of the Noah story; it leaves out too much that is important and de-spiritualizes it completely.

This version of the Noah's Ark was not my favorite. I can understand maybe not including all of the religious aspects such as God punishing the people and creating the flood, etc. That may just be a reason to be able to have this story placed in a public school setting. However, Noah's Ark IS a religious story. There is something missing from the moral of the story, no lesson to be learned when you take out one of the main characters, God. The only reason I give it TWO stars is because of the il...more

This is a very simple, child-friendly re-telling of Noah's Ark. Fair warning - those looking for a very Biblical interpretation may be disappointed as it's told from the point of view of a child (Noah's grandchild) and there is little mention of sin and vice and angry, vengeful God. I personally liked this because it's a quick read and is a great showcase for Jan Brett's beautiful animal artwork - her biggest strength I think.

Don't let the pages fool you, even young readers can enjoy this book. Throughout this book, the author shares the experience on Noah's Ark from his grandaughter's perspective. The picture are amazing. Before reading this book to students, I would see if they can identify the animals in the pictures. I would read this book as a read aloud.

Jan Brett imagines Noah's grandmother finding the way as she boards the ark. The illustrations will capture childrens interest and the different animals will create discussion. Activities you could do is to expande on the animals in the book, ships, oceans.

This is a fantastically simple version of Noah's Ark. Not only are the illustrations gorgeous, but the simplexity of the sentences made the story very strong. It had a great use of adjectives, which would make for a great lesson.

I loved the illustrations in this book, not being a Christian it made me comfortable enough to read to my student and my children without feeling that I was passing information that could be misconstrued as truth.

This book caused me to stop and think - why didn't the lion eat the possum he was next to on the ark? That was one stinky boat with all those animals.

Brett's paintings are the highlight of this version of the Noah's Ark story, a retelling from the point of view of Noah's granddaughter.
Heidi
Beautifully illustrated! The story is told from Noah's grandson's point of view, which I think helps kids identify with the story more.

The story leaves something to be desired but I love the illustrations of animals in this version of Noah's Ark.
Beth
Each page has a picture in the side column that is in the shape of an animal. The art is realistic and vibrant.
Jill
Not a Biblical account of Noah and the Ark. It does have beautiful illustrations and is a "nice" story.
Linda
i think this is a really good way to tell bible story short and to the point kids laern better this way.
Angie
She certainly exercises her literary license with this Bible story, but I always love her illustrations.
Brittany
This version of Noah's Ark leaves out God and fails to live up to the Biblical account found in Genesis.

Absolutely beautiful book about a wonderful story. I really loved the art.
Roxanne Lund
Simplified version. As for using it in the classroom, it is nice that it is told from Noah's granddaughter's perspective.
Peggy
The typical story but cut extremely short. My little one said it was boring.
Lorena
The illustrations were beautiful. The story was not that bad.
Zinnia Bayardo
