Tim Pendry
A representative collection of twelve Gothic stories that are generally not seen elsewhere and are all to a reasonably high standard. Not a bad starting point if you want to get a 'feel' for the Gothic horror tale.

All have something to recommend them and there are no absolute duds but special praise for the last item - a genuinely disturbing story by Gerald Durrell, usually associated with benign memoires of animals.

This is a collection of Gothic short stories dating from 1825 right through to 1979.

I particularly enjoyed "Dickon the Devil", by J. Sheridan Le Fanu – a traditional kind of ghost story – and "By One, By Two, and By Three", by Stephen Hall – a well-told tale about the price paid for witchcraft. In contrast, I was less impressed by "The Knocker at the Portico", by Basil Copper and "The Dream" by Mary Shelley.
Excellent, creepy anthology with a variety of authors who are not in every story anthology. Great read.
