No child is too young to begin learning about the greatest love story of all-God's love for his people, as portrayed in the Bible. David R. Helm and Gail Schoonmaker collaborate to create a beautifully illustrated book of Bible stories especially for children, written with simplicity. Rather than simply retelling the most familiar short scenes from the Bible, this book pre

Grasping the continuity of the Bible is difficult, even for adults. It's easy to read it as many separate stories, each one written to reveal something about God but not necessarily connected to one another. But to view the Bible like this is to miss the "big picture," the story line that is hidden in the pages, waiting to be discovered. That story line is the Christ-centered story of redemption.

In The Big Picture Story Bible, David Helm and Gail Schoonmaker simply yet superb...more

I've never been big on story bibles. I don't know why, but they've always slightly annoyed me. So, as it turns out I was slightly annoyed when I found out this is the book I would be reviewing this month for Crossway.

This picture Bible I felt was just like a lot of the others I've seen. Cute pictures that depict the stories of the Bible.

I enjoyed looking at the pictures, and it was fun to go back over the stories.

All in all however I would say it is just l...more

This story Bible is good for preschool age children.

The pictures are delightful and look like watercolor paintings. The faces are easy to see and show different emotions. The scenery is bright and filled with detail.

The stories themselves are based on the Bible. The author paraphrased many of the familiar Bible stories so that they are easier to understand. The shorter stories help hold the attention of young children. The author even has questions you can ask the child...more

Short review: This is my favorite children's bible. Recently started reading it to my niece and rediscovered why. Beautiful artwork, clear writing.

This is a great kids' Bible. It presents the Biblical narrative as a connected whole, rather than a series of disconnected stories. Read this to Liam several times now and he loves it.

First impressions are important and I really disliked what I saw in the first story. Not impressed. Not sure what to do with my new Bible story book. :/

Stunning illustrations. One of the best overviews of the entire Biblical story I've run across. A favorite.

Has a hint of Replacement Theology in it, otherwise an excellent children's Bible.

We received this book from the church when our first child was born. The illustrations are truly capitivating and have a unique style. The narrative is just okay. It is sparse, and tries to only cover the highlights of the Bible. Sometimes, I think it is not concrete enough for children so young, and the lack of depth can create a vague obscurity.

it is a good book, and I'm glad we have it - of course, it is also precious because it came from our church. But, it is more something tha...more

We love how Helm narrates Bible stories within the framework of God as sovereign King, man's rebellion and fall, consequences, and God's amazing grace and redemption through the promised one. The theology in retelling Biblical stories is excellent. Best young children's Bible stories we have encountered yet, but one significant complaint-- the book includes images of Jesus.

This is the story Bible we got Nathan to read to us--an easier reading level than the Jesus Storybook Bible, easier for Katya to understand, but still well connected and written with lots of actual verse quotes woven in. He often runs to grab it and find the story that we are reading in a different version.

Recommends it for: People who are Christians and have children.
A pretty little amazing book to introduce children to the truths found in the Bible. At two, this was officially the longest book my daughter has ever sat through. She even repeated some of the things it said and was fascinated with the pictures.

Finally, a children's book that weaves the main theme all the way through. This is a a great book for those who are tired of good, moral children's books about the bible that makes the character of the bible the hero instead of God.

This is a great children's book, Bible...

It does an excellent job of encapsulating the Gospel message of the Bible throughout the entirety of the Bible for young kids.

Our daughter is 3 and loves this book.

Little H. loves to read sections of this book before bed each night. It's great for familiarizing children with the Bible from beginning to end before they can read.
