The "Legacy of the Force" arc in the Star Wars universe draws to a close in this hardcover finale by Troy Denning. He and authors Karen Traviss and Aaron Allston have been cycling through the 9 books of the series, which highlight yet another galactic civil war in which the Skywalkers and Solos come to the aid of the galaxy. However, there are a few twists this time around - Luke is joined by his wife, Mara, and son Ben, while the Solos are split - Han and Leia ...more

I think that in the context of a sci-fi space opera, the "Legacy of the Force" storyline has been pretty brilliant (its not trying to cure cancer). But this last book was quite disappointing. After reading the pretty amazing "Revelation" by Karen Traviss, you kind of have to wonder what happened. Traviss spent that whole novel meticulously building great characterizations of Jacen, Ben, Luke, Niathal, Daala, Palleaon, and most impressively, Boba Fett, who has spent most of hi...more

This is the last book in a 9 book series set some 30 or 40 years after Return of the Jedi. The series as a whole has been fantastic, with quite a few plot twists and surprises. This last book proved to be a bit of a disappointment. Generally speaking, I have absolutely loved every Troy Denning book that I have read. This guy is a GREAT author! I'm not sure if he was left with too much or too little to cover in this series finale, but the book just felt a little off. Where previous books dealt wi...more

This is the last of a series of 9 new books set a good ways after the "holy trinity" of movies in the Star Wars timeline. It's after the Yuuzhan Vong invasion and war, and the Galactic Alliance formed from the remains of the beaten and battered New Republic is having no less than a civil war.

Those crazy Corellians have split off from the GA for more autonomy, and in the midst of it all, a new Sith Lord is in the making.

Very well written - three authors rotated writing duties t...more

This series was flwaed from the start, and the final installment fulfilled the disappointment. It wasn't a bad read, overall, but the choices this trio of writers made w/these beloved characters were often infuriating. Killing people off unexpectedly works once in a while, but when it becomes a regular go-to move, the whole experience is cheapened (just watch the last season of "24," for example). I read this series more out of habit than desire, since I've been reading SW fiction for ...more

Over all, these books do a better job of expanding the Star Wars mythology than Lucas's own prequels. The heroes of the Rebellion have grown into leaders who try to fashion a New Republic from the ashes of the Galactic Empire. Each author really captures the voice of the characters, as well as the feel of the universe as a whole.

This is the last book of the current storyline, in which Luke, Han, and Leia must once again face a civil war tearing the galaxy apart and the totalitarian iron...more

Forgive me for this being negative, but...

Very short, flat, simple read. Not what I expected at all and Troy Denning is a favorite SW author of mine. This book left me sad b/c of story elements and how the plot was treated. What seemed like it was supposed to be important throughout the series came across as being too quick, like the author was trying to tie up all the loose ends very quickly, as opposed to giving the them the page counts they needed for the series to mean much to the rea...more

Ehhhh. Ok. Sure, I cried a bit at the end - this is Jacen and Jaina, after all - but overall, I wasn't terribly impressed. I did like the author's choice to reference things that happened in the Jedi Academy series and to start out each chapter with one of Jacen's awful jokes - it added veracity and a sense of history to the book that I think gets left out of a lot of EU stuff, just because there is SO MUCH of it to remember to reference. But geeze. How much more suffering and tearing apart...more

Great popcorn reading - I basically completed it between arriving at Seatac airport and touching the ground at LAX. It gets three stars because it's wonderfully diverting and engaging, but it's hampered by being the climax to a somewhat pointless nine-book series that never seemed to have a bigger-picture theme or to be more than an episodic series of little battles that left you feeling hollow at the end. I'm probably expecting too much out of a Star Wars book ... but it could have been a reall...more

End of the Legacy of the Force series. I'm personally glad to see the end of the Jacen Solo becomes Darth Caedus/Sith Lord series. I had a really hard time buying that. Maybe it was because the writers in the Legacy series didn't "sell it" very well, or maybe it was b/c previous writers had established too well Jacen's character as a conscientious caring being.

This book was fine, not too great, not too bad, but notably not this author's best work in the Star Wars universe.

I hadn't ever read a Star Wars book about what happens after the movies, but this was fairly enjoyable. It was a bit weird, like I got the feeling that people really, really get into what might have happened to the characters after the movies. I'm not crazy about Star Wars that way, but because of the movies I was already familiar with the main characters and their special Jedi powers, which made this easier to understand. Overall it was a fairly good book.

An excellent ending to The Legacy of the Force series. While it did bring about the death of another main character in the SW EU, it didnt feel out of place or forced either.

While it wont replace my favorite EU series (Rogue Squadron), it was definitely better than, and built upon, The New Jedi Order.

Looking forward to seeing where the EU goes from here...

Fine. A good ending to a series that made me mad over and over again. It was cleverly crafted and despite the ending (which was a foregone conclusion) it still reaked havoc on a lot of the characters we know and love....

Still hate Karen Traviss for what she did in Sacrifice which is why this is the only book in the series I actually bought.

The final book in the 9-volume series.
It seemed to end a little too abruptly. The defeat of Darth Caedus was expected; but there was so much else to resolve that seemingly want not resolved. Furthermore, the new leader of the galaxy was completely unexpected and difficult to fathum.

A "meh" finish to the series. There were some really good moments earlier in the series, but it seems like the story line just ran out of steam at the end. Battle scenes and duels were entertaining. Characters were flat. Oh well. It's Star Wars.

This was the final book in the Star Wars: Legacy of the Force series, and it had me on the edge of my seat. There were nine books total, and I loved reading all of them. This one was by far the darkest and had the most fighting and death.

This is the end, and I didn't read the others but it was pretty good. The writing is a little wooden, but if you need to read about an ass kicking girl Jedi (and really, who doesn't?) this would be the book for you.

A decent end to a decent story, though not nearly as powerful as it could have been. I was really looking forward to another Troy Denning novel, but this one was merely o.k.
