I couldn't decide if this was a book which reminded me of Gone With the Wind or not. There is the same selfish but likable woman character and the mysterious but heroic man she is in love with all centered around her desperation to return to her southern home after the Civil War. Finally, I decided it did, but in setting only. The main characters did not inspire me to feel sorry for them because they didn't have the same kind of hardship that the other characters had to face. One of the better historical romance books I have read. More of a dysfunctional marriage type of book, but has some steamy romance. I did like the character interaction, they very much liked to fight and then make up. The near ending was a bit to sappy for me but all in all I enjoyed it.
Even though the overall rating is less than stellar, this was the first romance book I ever read and I loved it! I have since been sucked into the wonderful world of historical romance and will never look back.
