The premise of this book was really good: a biography of Author John Gardner, who was by all accounts an alcoholic, a womanizer as well as author. This book was written by Susan Thornton who was to be his third wife had John not passed away days before their wedding. Sound like a good book? What prevented it from getting more than two stars? For me, the writing. I feel like the story lined jumped around way too much from past things that happened to present tense, and that was hard to follow. Bu ...more

This book made me physically ill. This was NOT a love story. The relationship was entirely pathological and destructive.
