Es en realidad 'Campos de Níjar' un relato de denuncia social encubierto en forma de libro de viajes o en verdad se trata de una crónica inmediata del desamparo que la "cenicienta de España"? Poco importa, la honestidad y la mirada fraternal y adecuadamente matizada que Goytisolo imprime en estas tienen el sabor de lo auténtico.

Goytisolo poniendo nombre al paisaje. Y con cada nombre, el retrato de la lucidez, restar un poco de deuda a la historia, honrarla también.
Hay que leer a Goytisolo para entender este país.

I read the original "Los Campos de Nijar" some time ago in Spanish, and it was with some excitement that I began to read this translation by Peter Bush. Whilst it is true that the translation follows the original text faithfully, it loses it's essence and rhythm in English - the beauty of the original is in the use of vocabulary particular to Almeria and the way of speaking by its inhabitants. Una crónica espeluznante de los viajes del autor por la comarca de Níjar y el Cabo de Gata a finales de los años 50. La extrema pobreza, la ausencia de esperanza o de alumbramiento de un futuro más brillante... Explica muchas cosas de la situacion actual de Andalucia.

Un librito del maestro. Se trata del paisaje mas bonito e interesante de Andalucia (en mi opinion, claro): Nijar, y sus campos, en la provinica de Almeria.
