Peggy and Pete Murphy aren’t quite sure what to think. At first they were excited about moving into the high-rise project – it seemed like a grant adventure – but now, things are bottoming out. The play areas are very small and ill equipped, not all of the other kids who live in the apartments are nice, and sometimes gangs of rough boys come through bullying the other children.

A white family moves to the Projects in the mid-sixties, gaining in living space but losing in community: gangs (white, if it matters), grocery stores too far for pedestrians and no public transportation, strict rules against pets. But, as the father points out, they have a view (and good for them, really). Great, engaging story. It's interesting to read something written thirty years after Lenski's debut. Some of the content is very surprising, in light of today's mission to blandify the world.
