Unik.

Saya membaca chicklit tapi belum pernah membaca teenlit.

I took a week or so to write my review of this book because I'm still not certain how I truly feel. I admit to having borrowed it from the library's "We recommend" section; I felt it would be a quick 'read whilst waiting on the car line' book. Little did I know forty-five minutes worth of reading would cause such inner strife!

Initially I felt the plot to be terribly contrived in terms of post-it note communication. However, having finished the book I realised several people/families have indeed...more

I found it hard to like this book because I didn't like the mother at all. My problem with that character was she didn't seem to know much about breast cancer even though she was an ob/gyn, she seemed less mature than her daughter most of the time, and thing the bothered me the most was she didn't have a cell phone. What ob/gyn in this day and age doesn't have a cell phone? (Of course, if she had a cell phone, she could've called her daughter and written fewer notes, which would've been a proble...more

Gila...bisa-bisanya 2 orang hidup serumah berkomunikasi hanya lewat notes atau pesan yang ditempelkan disebuah Kulkas.

Seorang Ibu, yang juga seorang dokter dan single parent mempunyai seorang anak gadis Claire yang sibuk bersekolah dan bekerja part time as baby sitter. Contoh notesnya nih:

Hei Claire-Bear,

susu
apel
pisang
alpukat
bawang
kentang
tomat
jamur
wortel dan makanan kelinci untuk Peter
daging sapi giling
roti

Okay, I'll admit it...this book had me bawling in the waiting room at the doctor's office yesterday. Everyone thought I was there for bad news. After reading the ending, I could honestly tell the doctor I was doing great.
The title caught my eye first, but when I saw the pages were notes between a mother and daughter, I had to read it. Claire is a teenager struggling to define herself in a life of divorce, friends, boys, and school. Her mom is also struggling as a single mother raising a daugh...more

I'm not sure what to say about this book. I had this listed to-read for quite awhile and finally stumbled upon it yesterday at the Super G. :)
I will admit that I'm glad I didn't pay $15.95 for it. As much as I liked it being that it took me less than 20 minutes to read I would have been a little ticked at that. As it happened I only paid $3.00 for it and for this I am pleased.
The reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 3 is the ending. The ending affected me more than any other part of the book....more

Such a quick read, think I had it finished in under an hour. I really didn't like most of this book. It seemed so wrong to me that this family of two couldn't take the time to communicate face-to-face. Although they do talk about a few meetings, most of the book centered around the fact that they didn't really know each other and were both so selfish they wouldn't stop anything in their own lives to spend time with each other. The mother knew little to nothing about the daughters school and soci...more

I found Life on the Refrigerator Door in the super-discount bin at Barnes&Noble, thought it was an interesting concept and picked it up.

It wasn't a fantastic book and only took me about 40 minutes to read, but it certainly had a strong message.

This epistolary work is written in the form of notes between a mother and daughter left on the refrigerator as they just miss each other going through the motions of their busy lives.

When I first read the book, I felt both mother and daughter were se...more

It was very interesting to read a book made of notes! I enjoyed it, but that's really all I can say. It wasn't AMAZING, it wasn't BREATHTAKING. It's kind of what you would expect, just a quick sort of "thoughtless" read. Although hearing the plot, I did expect to feel more emotion, and honestly I kept waiting for the tears and they never came. It's sad but it didn't effect me the way I thought, probably because you can only fit so much emotion into notes left on the refrigerator.
As far...more

This book is incredibly moving especially when you think about the fact that it is written entirely in scribbled notes on the refrigerator door. A great example of how alternative formats can be just as strong as powerful as the traditional novel.

I like how the author didn't fill in the blanks, the reader is left to decide what conversations and fights take place between the daily notes. In short notes, Kuipers captures the voice of a teenage girl and her mother struggling to fit cancer into the...more

I had mixed feelings about this one. I had a hard time not feeling frustrated with the mother. I have a teenage daughter and I cant imagine being so busy where I had to leave notes on everything from being dianosed with breast cancer to what boys she is dating. The mother was the won suffering with the cancer but I felt more sympathetic towards the daughter who I felt was neglected. The ending was very sad and it did bring tears to my eyes. The good thing about the book is it is a reminder to sl...more

Interesting style---a book composed completely of notes!

I did wish it was a bit more engaging however.

I felt the character development was weak, and I really wished that instead of it all being refrigerator door notes (which to me exacts a certain amount of detachment) that the notes would have been interspersed throughout the story and given a stronger character development.

Cool idea---but I had difficulty connecting to the characters and developing empathy for the plot. Short read though--pr...more

Today I listened to a book on CD. The title was "Life on the Refrigerator Door, Notes between Mother and Daughter". It was about a Mother and Daughter that left notes for each on the frige door. Much of the time they were caught up in everyday life, even when mom was diagnosed with cancer. This book made me realize that life is too short. Today I have made the decision to make my relationships with my daughters better. I don't want to waste time life is too short. It cold be gone in a snap of a...more

About half way through I put this one down, despite the good recommendation from a friend. I couldn't do it. It pulled me emotionally too many directions and played me like a Nicholas Sparks novel tries to do (and for the record, I despise his books--- talk about maudlin and contrived!) I am afraid it only made me feel manipulated and thus angry. I wanted to boot both Claire and her mum in the pants and then boot the book out the door. But instead, I closed it (unfinished, though I did skip to...more

Cute concept but would have worked better as a picture book or...something. There had to be more to these people The mother didn't have a clue about her daughter. I wanted to smack her sometimes - sick or not. Maybe if there were pictures, or paragraphs to fill in some of the blanks..? As a 20 minute read, it was OK. As a deep, philosophical treatise on life, mothers and daughters, the value of living in the moment.... not so much. Took me longer to write this than to read the whole book.

This is the second letter/short note based novel I've read recently, and unfortunately this one was not as well executed. However, while some of the notes seemed a little forced (too plot-driven to have been believable) the majority read with authentic voices. I have to tip my hat to the author for managing to develop characters through grocery lists and "see you later" notes.

The book is short, but precise. How short, you ask? I was intrigued by the title and sat down in the library to read a c...more

Life on the refrigerator door by Alice Kuipers was a quick and easy read. It is composed solely of notes that Claire and her mom leave on the refrigerator door. The notes written contain information on where they both will be, grocery lists, school work, phone messages, and even the words they don't feel comfortable saying out loud. Overall, life on the refrigerator door is a thought provoking and very moving read, reminding us that life is short and we should cherish the times we have with the...more

Akhirnya komunikasi mereka terjadi melalui note...more

??? Viena otrai atstāj zīmītes uz ledusskapja pat vienlaicīgi atrodoties vien...more

I bought this book for the library I work for years ago, and as it passed my desk recently, for some reason, I opened it up, and saw that the book was REALLY notes on the refrigerator door. The concept of a book written that way intrigued me, and I had to read it.

It's a quick read, definitely, and I found myself skeptical at first that it could contain anything profound or worthy. I thought if there was, then it would be contrived, b/c we don't really communicate in this way.

I thought the daugh...more

I was drawn into reading "Life on the Refrigerator Door", due to its unique format. The book is written entirely in letters and notes exchanged between a single mother and her teenaged daughter, Claire. These notes are left on their refrigerator door, hence the title. The letters range from grocery shopping lists, friday night plans, to heartfelt letters. However, these letters begin to change once Claire comes home to a letter where her mother states that she was diagnosed with breast cancer. F...more

My Summary: Claire and her mother may live in the same house, but they might as well live on a different planet for all the time they spend together. Claire's mother is a doctor and single mother, so Claire is often left on her own. The only way the two interact is through their little notes on the refrigerator door.

But one night Clair comes home to a note that rocks her entire world.

And suddenly, notes aren't enough.

My Thoughts: I loved the premise of this novel. The way the notes from Claire...more
