Write Path NI Limited were looking for people to review 'Volunteer'. They are holding a fundraising night on the 15th March 2014 during which they will also be celebrating the publication of this novel.

Born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Gary McElkerney has done voluntary first aid work in Nicaragua, Hungary and Ethiopia. The experiences Gary had gave him the idea for this book.

I had the pleasure of reading this manuscript in its raw form earlier this year and it simply blew me away - I read it three times in as many weeks just in case I had missed a bit. What is, for me, unique about Volunteer is that no matter how many times I read it (and I have to confess to reading it several times since) the emotional rollercoaster ride is consistently exhilarating.

Initially he gets the mundane jobs in the hospital but progresses on to delivering medical aid to those who need it while being ...more

Chris Johnston is a 22 year old from Belfast, volunteering to help build houses in a leper colony in Ethiopia. He's a veteran volunteer, having already worked in Nicaragua and Hungary. He sees volunteering as an adventure, a way of escaping his boring life at home and his parents
I received a copy of this book from the publishers in exchange for an honest review.

I have to admit I didn't really warm to the character of Chris. I found him to be a selfish, and on some occasions annoying, character.
