Setting: Georgian England and France

After a near fatal accident, the Duke of Winston decides to hire a personal medic to help with his recuperation. Millicent Germain seizes the opportunity by posing as a young man for the position. Winston's plans though include trip to Greece, which makes the job even more appealing as it puts Millie that much closer to Malta's medical school and her dream of becoming a doctor. Winston catches early on of her disguise and is totally intrigued by Mil

This book was a very pleasant surprise for me. Based just on the synopsis I did not expect to like it as much as I did. The only criticism I have is a small one. The historical accuracy was not what I would usually prefer. I'm not even sure what era it is meant to be set in. Sometimes it felt like a regency and others like a late Victorian. They took me out of the story once or twice but all together I got past that easily. The characters were well written. I believed the transformation in Winst ...more

I felt thst this book was certainly an improvement over its predecessor; the characters didn't feel as cliched. But they were still unbelievable in places, like at the end when the Duke crawled up the side of the ship to escape notice, only to join the sailor crew bold as brass the next day, then join in battle as if he were just one of the guys, when he was clearly out of his depth. He then chose to lecture Millie on decorum, telling her she shouldn't be fighting the corsairs who were streaming ...more

The writing showed some promise in the beginning but the plot devolved into a hot mess

Full disclosure: I received this novel directly from the author, but that in no way affects my review.

This is a historical romance between Millicent Germain and Winston, a duke. Masquerading as a man, Millie Germain dreams of becoming a physician and thus is employed as a medic to the Duke of Winston. Winston has had a near-fatal accident that has caused wounds that need healing. Miles (aka Millicent) attempts to get Winston to change his lecherous ways.

Before too long, Winston figures out this

I am enthralled by Alison DeLaine's fresh and vivid style of storytelling. From the very first page, her writing draws me right in to this fascinating and fun story.

In the Georgian era, Millicent (Millie) Germain is a medic, in a time when women were not educated for any professions. Serving as physician and governess on the pirate Katherine’s ship in A Gentleman ‘Til Midnight, Millie’s greatest dream is to attend a prestigious surgical school in Malta. However, she is constantly thwarted in her

It's been so many books ago that I nearly forgot what this series was about. However, once diving into the book, it wasn't hard to get back into the swing of things though some details were still fuzzy for me.

Millie desperately wants to attend medical school in Malta believing she can masquerade as man. However, she's in dire straits after a failed attempt of commandeering her friend's ship and remaining funds stolen. She is forced to masquerade as a man and act as medic to the newly reformed Du

I had the privilege of receiving this book through an AuthorBuzz giveaway. I have enjoyed other books by this author and this was no exception. It is a fun-filled romance between Winston and Millie that boasts a happy ending. The strong-willed heroine of the story has a neat twist to her character that I really enjoyed. I will definitely be reading more books by this talented author.

Overall, liked the book except the wild goose chase that Millicent put the Duke through at the end was annoying. I'm not even sure why she was mad at him in the last few chapters - it's the situation she should be mad at, not him.

"DeLaine’s fresh voice and wildly exciting adventure romances are sure to make her a reader favorite. She doesn’t disappoint with the third of her series and her most unconventional heroine yet. There is plenty of emotion, fully realized characters, sexual tension and fast-paced plot to please, but there is also an underlying layer to the story that delves into character motivation and the search for a purpose and the need to be loved, which will speak to romance readers in a special way" (RT Bo ...more

Alison DeLaine lives in rural Arizona, where she tries to keep her hillbilly side under control (but generally fails) and can often be found driving a dented old pickup truck out to her mining claim in the desert. When she’s not busy striking it rich, waiting on spoiled pets, or keeping her husband in line, she is happily putting characters through the wringer. Alison is a two-time Golden Heart fi ...more
