I never use to enjoy suspense novels in the Christian genre, but the authors are doing a better job with plots, subplots, and characters. This book proves all of the above to be true.

This is a monthly series e-book...great suspense and nothing offensive. I find that very refreshing in the publishing world today.

Helen Meeker works for the a President of the United States during WWII. Her job is a wide one... Everything from being a beautiful escort to visitors from other coun

Ace Collins', A Date with Death, is the first installment in his series, In the President's Service.

I am a fan of WWII stories and I looked forward to this one.

The main characters are described well and the author sets the tone of suspense and intrigue. I found Helen Meeker to be a hot shot detective that seems to be able to solve any problem. She gives the impression that if"you men can solve this problem, let me do it." She probably has the ability to do it as she is not beholding to the mili

I found this story completely captivating, and very much a page turner. There was only one thing I was disappointed in...that the end came so soon. I was thrilled with Helen was such an eye opener to see history as it unfolded through her eyes. I could almost feel Helen's anguish and frustration as she strove to prove her theories right, before it was too late, see the stress of those close to the President during this time of unrest. Although the story seemed rathter rushed, I feel ...more

A Date with Death, Episode 1 in Ace Collin’s new series called In the President’s Service, is an exciting race against time to free an innocent pastor and find who really committed the crimes he is sentenced to die for. Detective Helen Meeker, who works directly for President Franklin D. Roosevelt, is delightfully clever, having noted the discrepancy that the investigators who examined the evidence that backed up the pastor’s confession.

I’m not one for period fiction, so I was a little dismayed when I started Ace Collins’s book, A Date with Death. The preview said this was a book with a female lead. I decided I would at least get through the second chapter. After all, I was reading the book courtesy of and was supposed to give an honest review. I figured I had to stick it out. Enter, Helen Meeker. We get a slow introduction to her, that her family has been friends with Franklin Roosevelt, that she apparently has a ...more

A Date with Death, Episode One in “In the President’s Service Series” by Ace Collins
This is the first in a series by Ace Collins, and I believe once you have read the first, you will be hooked, not so patiently waiting for the second-which thankfully will be available very soon.

WWII is the setting for this story, and the leading lady, Helen Meeker, is in the service of the President, in a variety of ways including escort to visitors from other countries, and as detective. I loved that the main

Ace Collin's has started a new series set during WWII. While not a book that I would normally pick up, I was glad that I was given this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Helen Meeker works for FDR. She is one of his "assistances" but she is much more. With a keen mind and a pretty face, Helen Meeker is a great detective.

Discovering information that may prove the innocence of an accused "Nazi spy", Meeker teams together with her old partner Henry Reese, who works for the FBI. Together they

This is a real old-fashioned thriller, a novel of World War II intrigue with a twist or two that could keep you on the edge of your seat. This is Episode 1 of In the President's Service.

Helen Meeker works for President Franklin Roosevelt as a sort of frustrated FBI agent. Frustrated because J. Edgar Hoover wants the FBI to be a boys-only club. Frustrated because she knows she is as good or better than any of the boys-only club's agents.

Her former partner Henry Reese agrees with her, along with

A Date with Death is power packed story. With a man's life in the balance Helen Meeker is short on time to prove his innocence. And the reported death of his daughter is somehow linked to it, if only Helen can find the proof that she needs.

But things get complicated when Helen is required to be seen with an English hero - all in service to the President. As Helen and Henry Reese look for the evidence they need, so

This is a story I did not want to put down. It is the first episode in Ace Collins new series titled In The Presidents Service. I'm looking forward to the next episode.
The setting is during World War II. Exciting jaunt through history!

I usually steer far clear of WWII-themed books, but this one was great! A Lutheran pastor, Wilbur Shellmeyer, is accused of spying for the Nazis and will be executed. Helen Meeker, who used to work for the FBI and now works directly for FDR himself, is certain Shellmeyer confessed to cover for someone else. Meeker enrolls help from her former partner, Henry Reese, and they hurry to prove Shellmeyer innocent before the execution date. However, FDR has an important a

Ace Collins quickly draws his readers in with this first installment of In the President's Service. His main character, Helen Meeker is high energy, personable and always in the thick of an adventure. A Date with Death has intrigue and romance, ministers and spies, and keeps the reader on the edge of the seat wondering what is coming next for Helen as she works for President Roosevelt. Some history, some humor and Collins has his readers hankering for more. The book is a quick read and almost ...more

A Date with Death was enjoyable in the action movie sort of way. Light and adventure packed. Meeker goes on quite a few adventures, most involving her partner Reese, and solves a mystery that could cost a man his life. And like in most action movies, the plot was truly improbable.

Things go way too well for Meeker. I don't want to give things away, but she solves a lot of problems far to easily. And the way she found the case was highly improbable as well. Reading a historical mystery, I had hope

Fast paced, well written suspense story! The blurb of the book should be enough to get you intrigued. I love how the author infused humor with all the action and suspense. You feel the emotions with the character as she tries to free a man sentenced to death. She comes up against many obstacles and dangerous happenings while having to deal with a man she just met claiming to love her. Are the circumstances connected? You will have to read to find out. A Date With Death

I loved the book! Can’t wait for the next part. Once I started I couldn’t put it down. Took me close to 3 hours. The characters in the book work outstanding. They were all very believable characters. Helen Meeker is one tuff lady working for the President of the United States, kinda his right arm guy. She is trying to save a man on death row. Proving he is innocent is not easy . Especially since he says he is guilty. Why would a man want to die? Helen is determine

I really liked Helen Meeker in The Yellow Packard and she is back! She is a gutsy woman, a special investigator for President Roosevelt. That is because, much to Helen's irritation, Hoover allows only men to be FBI agents. Helen is on the task of saving a pastor from execution. Helen thinks he confessed to treason because the Nazi's have his daughter.
This is a great little novel with lots of action. There is a bit of romance too. When the novel ends, this case is wrapped up but another presents

An absolutely riveting book, which was very hard to put down even for a short break! Wonderful suspense, characters that you are sure are bad and then maybe not, political intrigue that rivals the best of them. All in all, worth every minute it took to read and I look forward to the second installment - which hopefully will resolve the cliff-hanger this book leaves you with.
