I didn't think I would care for this as much as I have the other books in the series. This one centered around Sophie who was Daisy and Max's mother. She is also Greg's ex wife. She was written as the type of mother more wrapped up in herself and her own dreams than in her family. Her marriage fell apart and she didn't put up any fight when the kids chose to live with dad full time. She just accepted it. Rather than being a parent she was always more of a decorative piece in their lives always o...more

The backstory made no sense whatsoever, as if the author lost all reality contact. Come on, evil military dictators magically toppled by a lawyer in a far distant court that has no real jurisdiction or enforcement power. The whole phoney Africa/ICC stuff was just too idiotic for words, and that alone would have ruined a good romance--if there was one, which there wasn't. Sophie is at least a runner-up for the most unlikable heroine in a romance novel ever. The romantic part of this novel mirrore...more

I read Just Breathe but the same author and thought it was okay, but decided to try another by this author as I found it at a library sale. So glad that I did. This is book 4 in the series and I read it first knowing that there were 3 prior to this one. I have to say that this book stands very well on its own.

Sophie Bellamy is somewhat recently divorced from Greg Bellamy and he's newly married (their romance was book 2 or 3 of this series). I was so glad that I didn't read the previous installm...more

I was a little surprised by the main character of this book, Sophie. In past books Sophie has come across as cold, detached, and dare I say it, yes I will a bitch. She put her needs ahead of everyone else's, even her kids. So I didn't really expect to enjoy this book as much as I did.

Sophie is the kind of woman that has been trapped by her over achieving parents, you know the ones that push, push, and keep pushing their kids. It is only after a catastrophic life or death event that she realizes...more

Itulah yan...more

This was my second favorite of the series. I loved the fact that she was so wary about falling for someone so much younger than her.

After two years of grueling work for the International Criminal Court in The Hague, an international terrorist incident prompts divorced lawyer Sophie Bellamy to recognize that her work is meaningless without her two children—Max, 12, and Daisy, 19—who are living with their remarried father. On the snowy night Sophie returns to Avalon, N.Y., she meets the handsome b...more

Typical love story- boy meets girl and they fall in love. They have a disagreement and split apart only to discover they love each other enough to get over their differences. We were introduced to Sophie Bellamy, international lawyer, in the last book. She was a minor character and we weren't supposed to like her too much. Career has always been important to Sophie. Her parents taught her it is all about what you achieve. If you are doing good works then your family will understand. While at the...more

I feel cheated. This book was so great, so heart string pulling. I wouldn't even label it a romance novel, I mean sure there's romance, duh, but it's so much more. This book is a family story. A mother trying to reach out to her family, to win her kids' hearts back, to find a place in their lives. You just want to cheer for her and her kids.
But, the romance lets me down. Not because it doesn't seem like the central story. Sometimes a book drones on and on and on and then you get to the point fi...more

This book is a good read about Sophie who was working as an top international lawyer but after a hostage attack decides to give up her career and try to repair her relationship with her children. After she is rescued from a snowdrift by the local vet Noah she has to face up to their attraction to each other but she is determined to focus on her family. As she struggles to rebuild bonds with her children she has decide if there is room in her life for a romance. I didn't realise at first that thi...more

I love this series as a light read with a good dollop of romance without being too chick-lit-esque. I enjoyed the first 3 books very much. This is the 4th in the series.

When I found it centred on Sophie I was a little worried. In the previous books Sophie is the absent career mum who is not always painted in a great light. We hear about her from her kids, her ex-husband and it's not all that positive. So I was prepared not to get on with the book.

Actually it's clever because Sophie is just a per...more

Another sweet romance from SW. I enjoyed the May/September aspect of this one - mostly because Sophie, while slightly horrified to discover Noah is more than 10 years younger than her, doesn't angst about her body being to old, just that their minds/lives wouldn't mesh. And she gets over it pretty quickly.

Thought the catalyst for getting Sophie to the small town of Avalon was good. It would certainly make anyone re-think their life. Thought Noah might have been portrayed as slightly too immature...more

Well, this book was pretty fluffy, with a very contrived plot and some annoying repetition (Sophie had been self-serving and neglectful of her family; now she wanted to be present to them and be a vital part of their lives--stated WAY too frequently), but it was a good distraction while I stripped wallpaper border in two rooms, and I liked the character of Noah. He was the only one who seemed truly authentic. One thing about the narration of the book--the reader had several characters speak in a...more

I bought the Lakeshore Chronicle series after enjoying the first book. This is definitely my favorite of the series so far. Predictable, but I liked the story. Fun "beach" read.
I am living in Africa and found it interesting that the main character is working to help conditions in a place called Umoja in Africa. I wish the author would have given more backgound information on Umoja and its struggles. I looked it up in the internet and found this interesting article... http://www.washingtonpost.co...more

Nice story about starting over and second chances.

This was a really good novel. It is about a mother who has not been there for most of her children's lives as she worked in Africa for the UN. Now she has decided to come home after something terrible happened to her and she has to learn to adjust to being a "normal" mom. She is recently divorced and her ex-husband is newly married. She has to make friends and learn that she can balance work and family life together. Plus she meets someone who she falls in love with but doesn't want to admit thi...more

Anak-anaknya.

Sejak anak pertamanya lahir, Sophie selalu mementingkan karir. Dia tinggal satu samudera jauhnya dari keluarganya. Dia bekerja lebih dari 16 jam sehari. Hingga pernikahannya sendiri pun tak dapat diselama...more

Another excellent Willow Lake story. I could really relate to this one, which surprised me since Sophie Bellamy was not one of my favorite characters in previous Willow Lake stories. Sophie leaves her high-profile career (I just retired) after being taken hostage. It causes her to realize all that she would have missed with her family if she dies and what is truly important to her at this point in her life (Family has always come first with me but it is hard to juggle a career and family. I didn...more

This installment of the Lakeshore Chronicles centers around Sophie Bellamy, a career driven lawyer working for the International Criminal Court in The Hague. After a life-altering international terrorist attack on the Hague, Sophie leaves it all behind and returns to Avalon, N.Y., to be near her children. The night she returns, she gets stranded in the snowy weather and is saved by Noah Shepherd ... and so the story truly begins ...

I have to admit I was wary of reading a story focused around Sop...more

I liked this story. I have only read one other by the author, but will certainly be reading more. This is the story of Sophie, a lawyer specializing in international law. She quits her job at the Criminal Court in the Hague to return to a small town in upstate New York where her ex-husband and two children live, hoping to make up for her past failures as a mother. She meets and falls for Noah, the local veterinarian who is 10 years younger than she is. Great cougar story.

This story is mainly about Sophie Bellamy, Daisy and Max Bellamy's mother. She's been an absentee mother for most of her children's lives. She chose her career as an international lawyer over her family. She finds herself in a hostage situation and survives. After coming through this terrifying time she decides to move to Avalon, NY where her children and ex-husband reside. She unexpectedly finds herself falling for the local veterinarian, Noah Shepherd, who is much younger than she is.

This is the first book by Wiggs I haven't been able to finish. I feel that she really loved these two characters but they just didn't have enough layers to them for me to become invested. I felt that Sophie kept repeating herself and was almost a whiner, which she had every right to be after her accident. Noah just seemed too good to be true and their connection (emotional and physical) happened way to fast & felt forced.

I really do recommend reading this series all at once, one after another, in order to follow the journeys of all the characters. As so many others, I was not looking forward to Sophie's story since she seemed so unlikable in previous books. This book makes it seem possible to redeem a life that appeared to be off track--better late than never! And, of course, Noah is perfect!

susan wiggs books do seem to go on 4ever and then when u get to where the main characters decide to be together the book is over. im happy they end up together but dang can i get an epilogue? dont take me wrong, i do enjoy her books very much but im constantly skimming to get to the good stuff. i think a little less details would be great.

The fourth story of the Lakeshore Chronicles is the love story between Sophie and Noah. Sophie is an international lawyer who was in a hostage situation which made her rethink things and now she is in Avalon where her children reside. Noah is the local veterinarian.
Their relationship starts off physical.....

So, I like Wiggs' work but it always seems to me that she could have cut a good 50 pages or so. Almost like there was a minimum set on how long her books will be. I don't walk away feeling any urge to follow the series or find out what happens to so and so. I was ready for the book to end before it did.

It was an easy reading "Romance Novel". I don't like reading books out of sequence, but this was given to me to read by a friend. Very typical of supposedly intellegent woman who jumps into the sack first thing in book with great looking, single guy. Can't have children, two old for him and has the usual "issues". I enjoy Susan's books as they are quick readers and mellow me out.
Joy
This was a good book. Definitely a different story line than most romances. If someone were looking for a good book, I probably would not think of this book to recommend, but I would definitely pass the book along and say it was good. Light, enjoyable reading for sure.

I am so glad Susan Wiggs told us Sophie Bellamy's story. In the other books, Sophie was not a very sympathetic character, but with this story you get to see things from her viewpoint and you begin to understand why she did some of the things she did. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to go back to Willow Lake.

I just re-read this book as I seem to be doing the series all over again. This one is one of my favorites of the series. Mostly because it doesn't go into the past quite so much. And I just LOVE the main love interest, Noah. You can't help but love him! It also continues the story of Daisy, which is ongoing throughout the books, and one of my favorite characters to read about. On to the next one!
