I enjoyed this book, based on the true story of the Yorganson brothers who actually did have a goose named Chester. There is a lot of humor in this book about a boy who is given the charge to nurture a wounded Canadian goose and fatten the goose up for his landlord's Thanksgiving dinner. But when Thanksgiving is nearing, this boy and his family discover they have grown to love this crazy goose! Can they bring themselves to fulfill their responsibility and deliver Chester to the landlord's Tha More...

Cute book. My mom gave it to me to read and I thought I might as well read it and pass it on. But I think this will be one to keep on my bookshelves for when my kids are older and want good books to read. Well written, good moral and good gospel insights infused in a sweet story.

This book has been a perennial red-a-loud favorite with my family since it came out in the 80's. The dilemma of how to save the beloved goose, Chester, from becoming Thanksgiving dinner is compelling. Conflict, romance, humor, and an exciting tractor chase add to this great story!

I really liked this book, and I think it's because of that goose, Chester. He always made me laugh. I think my favorite part was when he met the highway patrol police officer. Of course it's always good when a book teaches me something, too.

Content - syrupy.

Mechanics - The author is quite good at describing the scenery - I could vividly imagine what he was describing. There was too much teaching in this book. Every chapter seemed to have some kind of moral to it and it interfered with the story.

Squeaky Clean? - yes.

This was one of thee best it is actually one of my favorite. It's just the love between a boy and a goose who's gonna die but ends up being able to fly at the right moment.

If there was a rating of 10 stars, this book would get it from me. It is my all-time favorite book. I read it to my kids plus some cousins on a trip to Utah 20 years ago. We laughed and cried all through it. Even Grandma and Grandpa Gold, who were also riding with us, would listen to me read. It is a wonderful read. There is also a movie about it. I think it is called The Thanksgiving Promise.

This is about a goose named Chester who is owned by a young man who in teaching the goose how to fly, touches other people's lives, and finds some self-esteem. My favorite parts were the explanations from loving parents on opposition and Satan's counterpart of competition. Some new thoughts and things to ponder. A book I would highly recommend and am thinking about purchasing.

Great themes within the book taught in simple ways: faith, brotherly love, discipline. I thought the family a little cheesy at times. This one sticks with me, and I find myself wanting to shadow the parenting demonstrated.
