The title is "A Life in Song" and this version of his life is focused on the music. So much that I had to stop reading and look up some of the (unfamiliar to me) songs online, so I could hear them performed and better understand the author's analysis. Overall there was a little too much analysis for my taste. But I learned a lot about the music industry during Irving's lifetime, as well as a little about this brilliant man and his process.
An interesting biography of Irving Berlin, one of the great American songwriters of the 20th century. The book is based around his songwriting career, and therefore focuses more on his songs and songwriting than his personal life. Overall, a fun, quick read for anyone interested in learning about a prominent contributor to the Great American Songbook.
