"Every so often a vampire story comes along that changes the entire genre..." - Taken from a reader review.

Absolution is a new story of heartbreak, betrayal, seduction and re-finding love.

Eve Blakethorn can barely remember what it was like to be unaware of the vampire world around her. Many years have passed since she met the stranger, the man who saved her life, gave her

Favorite Quote: “I just want to get through every fucking day, as well as I can, until I finally die like everyone I care about did.”

Eve Blackthorn’s world has always been filled with vampires. Saved by a vampire as a teenager, Eve had no way of knowing the impact he would have on her future. She eventually falls in love with him and they marry, much to the dismay of some. Days after their wedding, her entire family is massacred

Every so often a vampire story comes along that changes the entire genre, and is unfortunately then endlessly copied. This happened with Polidori, le Fanu, Stoker, Rice, Whedon and most recently Meyer. I was looking for that elusive new vampire story with originality when I came across Absolution by Angela McGurk, and it is every bit as groundbreaking as the stories of those writers I mentioned.

This story follows what it's like to be a human who was loved by a vampire, a vampire betrayed and exe

Have you ever read one of those books that you loved so very much that it was hard to put into words the plethora of feelings you experienced from the tale? Well Absolution is such a book for me. The tale is told primarily from two points of view, which took a moment to get used to, switching from Eve's present events to journal entries of historical events that took place in another character's life (I will not tell who's as it would be a spoiler and we cannot have that - oh no we can't) and ...more

2 1/2 to 3 's I think this book had a lot of promise. There were some really moving moments and I liked that the heroine was not your typical "good girl"; the consequences of her husband's death and Eve's subsequent self loathing having a real impact on her life. This was a bold move by this author as Eve was not always likable.

I liked the POV changes, for the most part; there was one that caught me off guard and I needed to look back at the chapter heading to see whose head we were in. I think

Disclosure: This ebook was provided by the author in exchange for an HONEST and not necessarily positive review.

I think I struggled at first with this book because it jumped about back and forth through time and didn't explain itself fully so often I had noticed I was frowning whilst reading. At around 37% though that changed as the pieces started to take form into what was a most enjoyable read I must say.

It had me laughing and hurting along with the ch

The first book in the Vampire Alliance series takes readers on an emotional journey full of suspense, betrayals and discoveries. I will admit that at first I wasn’t sure what whether I was going to like this book or not. In the first half of the book , the chapters flip flop from Eve’ story to the history of how three friends became vampires and it was a little annoying, but the second half of the book made up for it and it became clear why the author gave us that information. I will certainly ...more

I saw this reviewed by Tori over on Smexybooks and decided to give it a go. Her UF recs usually work for me, and it happened with this book as well.

Absolution is grittier, definitely more dark take on vampires.
Story starts with a bang- Eve comes to arena to witness execution of a vampire who killed her family. That vampire is also her husband. Last look into eyes of only man she ever loved proved what she was suspecting- Robert would never hurt her. He was a powerful, influential vampire, but he

McGurk’s story is outside of what I would normally read. I’m not big on vampire stories because very rarely will I be sympathetic to anyone who is not human. In many of the genre of story I find that vampires tend to be braggadocios with egos that are just too much for me. This was a good story. There were a lot, I mean a lot of things, motives especially, that I didn’t understand but overall it’s a well-done story.

This takes place in current times and is told in first person. One of the intere

I received this book in return for an honest review from Sweets Books and Angela McGurk.
Robert Blakethorn was from a high class family even though he was born out of wedlock. He was raised to think he could talk down to people and he was the master to his slaves who were really servants of the house. But as he grew older his faithful servant Tulloch Sullivan became someone he confided in and grew to like. When both their fathers died on the titanic, Roberts’s mother instructed Tulloch

This book had a slow build. While the beginning started with a bang, the narrative then slips between Eve's present circumstances and the story of three men (Eve's lost husband being one of them) who became vampires in the early 1900s. It isn't until a good way into the book that the threads of the past and the present begin to come together and you can see why we needed both sides of the story.

Frankly, I didn't always know what to think of Eve. I can appreciate that she managed to find a way to

“His palm presses against my cheek, stroking away stray strands of hair, “Eve, I’ve never been so scared. The thought that I’d never get to see you again, to apologise for the way I treated you, I couldn’t bear it. When they dragged you out I was so relieved, knowing that I had a chance to get you back.” He squeezes me tightly against his body as he admits, “I can’t lose you Eve. Them taking you made everything so clear. I love you and I thought I wasn’t going to get the chance to prove how much. I couldn’t let that happen.” 1 likes
“My palm presses against his cool cheek as I stare intently at him, willing him to understand, “I couldn’t have forgiven myself, couldn’t have gone on knowing I’d let you suffer when it was in my power to take that pain away.” I pause to smile sadly at him, “Anyway, it’s done now.”

He shakes his head in one last denial but there’s nothing he can do. Crimson tears fill his eyes again as he whispers softly, “Kiss me?”
