As the third book in the series revolving around boy and girl detectives Andrew Tillett and Sara Wiggins, it's understandable that Newman would have wanted to spice things up.

Constable Wyatt is now Inspector Wyatt of the Yard, Scotland Yard that is, and a firm friend of the family, taking Andrew and Sara to cricket matches and coming to Sunday tea.
