From the onset, the author tries to flex his muscles as an investigative journalist for his efforts. It almost feels like "hey, look at me; look what I did! I was in a melted nuclear reactor and got a great story!" Illesh must have been writing this book while wearing his Communist tin foil hat as he attempts to spin Chernobyl in such a manner that his fellow comrades could do no wrong... a seemingly typical citizen of the Soviet Union. Hmm, interesting. This book was published in 1987 - when a lot of information about the accident still hadn't been released (much info came after the collapse of the USSR). So it's interesting in that regard - the author seems to think that Pripyat (the city nearest to Chernobyl that was occupied by the plant's workers and families) will be inhabitable soonish (it's still not habitable today).
