Sometimes books have really horrible beginnings, sometimes books have really horrible endings, and then there are gems like this that have both.

Overall, I liked the book. It started slow. And I do this thing where if the book isn't that good, where I'll read the last few pages to see if I like the ending. If the ending is good, I'll continue. I did that, and I really didn't like the ending, but I figured I should just stick with it. After all, it's a pretty short book and I could finish it in a

Recommends it for: all those whose favorite books aren't historical novels
Gumshoe award winner; a Toby Dillon Mystery. Setting: San Diego County. Protagonist: tennis pro/adoption attorney. Second in a series. Author is adoption attorney. I read his previous book - looking forward to this one. Wry humor, compassionate characters.
Enjoyed this novel. Learned a lot about private adoptions.
