Finally, I think I was right about the way I felt when I read "the nose" by Nikolai Gogol. It felt like a chewing gum with a starting bizzar flavor which got lost after the very first pages. This book gave me nothing, felt like nothing, reminded of something (Kafka)and that was it. In college, I had to read this in Russian. Didn't get all of it, but enjoyed what I got. I have to read it in English one of these days (and then in Russian again, and then in English, i tak dalyee).
I own a copy like the one pictured; a fantastically illustrated Russian version. I think designers and illustrators can really have a field day with this story because it's so out there.

Absolutely fantastic comedy. A guy wakes up one morning without a nose and Gogol entertains us with infinite possibilities and genius imagination.

One of my all-time favorite short stories. Like most of Gogol's stuff, this is hilarious.
