Goodness, Grace and Me is an inviting, enjoyable debut novel, which draws upon everyday, easy-to-relate to life with a wit that makes it all a bit mad. And very entertaining. I’m always curious and maybe a little doubtful when a synopsis is already telling you a book will be hilarious, but I did find this one a lot funnier than I had possibly expected and it had me laughing out loud quite a few times. It took me a litt

Jody - A Spoonful of Happy Endings
At the end of 2013 I was contacted by author Julie Houston with the question whether I wanted to review her debut novel, ‘Goodness, Grace and Me.’ The cover straight away caught my interest (I love the Autumn feel of it) and the blurb also promised an enjoyable tale, described by the author as a ‘hilarious, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy.’ I was quite curious to start reading and discover whether the book would fit that promise!

Harriet is happily married to her husband Nick; they met in college

When Julie contacted me to ask if I would like to review her book, it did look like a fun and entertaining read and I didn't hesitate to say yes.

Harriet and Nick Westmoreland have been together since university days and have weathered life’s up’s and downs – one of the biggest downs being the folding of Nick’s textile business in the recession. They now have to share a house with Nick’s mother Sylvia and when Nick puts their meagre finances at even greater risk by going into business with busin

I'll admit I was initially quite cautious about a book that proclaims itself as "hilarious", however, in this case I'll admit they were right on the money. Houston's novel isn't really a romance per se, more of a family drama, tracking the lives of our couple after their HEA. While not my usual fare, Goodness, Grace and Me made for a welcome and refreshing change.

Harriet is happily married to the handsome Nick, mother of three and teacher of many. Harriet's life isn't overly romanticised or poli

I was a very lucky when the wonderful author of this book gifted me a copy.. Ohhhh boy was I !!

Let me introduce you to the main character Harriet ,wife, mother, teacher, good friend, good daughter, funny , smart , and boy can this woman juggle all these roles and do it well.

She is married to Nick and thanks to his ambitious nature it's going to be up to her to manage all her roles while he leaves for foreign climates in search of better things for their future. Sound simple? Heck no, throw in some

Nick and Harriet have just got back on their feet after Nick’s business went bust. Harriet had gone back to work teaching so that they could manage financially. They are doing fine after what could have potentially lost them everything. Then Nick decides he is going to go into business with local business man David Henderson, and take what Harriet considers a huge risk, and she fears they will lose everything.

Harriet’s already heightened anxiety, and fear is made worse by the arrival of David’s

Firstly, many thanks to the author, Julie Houston, for sending me a copy in exchange for a review.

When you see something billed as a "hilarious and laugh out loud rom-com" it's going to be seen as a bit of a challenge, yes there are lots of humerous scenes but it didn't make me laugh out loud. I liked it but didn't love it.

Don't get me wrong, this is a well written debut novel with some well developed relatable good-looking sexy characters with a lovely protagonist in Harriet - battling every da

A really nice and easy read. One of those books that is very easy just to read a couple of chapters before you go to sleep. I love a book that doesn't make me work too hard to keep up, and this one tied everything up at the end in a nice little parcel. Had already ordered the sequel on Kindle when they were on special for mothers day this year, so will start that tonight.

I really enjoyed this book for the combination of British humour and quick-flowing story. I liked the fact that it was written in the first person and found it easy to engage with Harriet, the likable lead character. An easy, entertaining and ultimately fun read.

Initially I found this very hard to get into, and felt confused by the sheer amount of characters. Thankfully I persevered, as there are some hilarious scenes in this, including various incidents involving a potting shed!
