I'm a sucker for a man with a disability, especially a verbal sort of disability like our MC in this story.

Kris has form of Tourette's where he says adjectives out loud about whatever he is thinking. It was pretty fascinating to read about, and as the sister of a stutterer, I immediately connected to the MC. I really enjoyed the first part of the story. It was Christmas-y, touching, and just gave me the warm fuzzies inside! I was melting hard and fast for this story.

But then... it sort of lost

Snow Globe is a short and sweet Christmas story. I wish I could rate it a little higher than 3 stars, but as much as I liked Kris and Bun, I never connected (or really even liked) Tyr. Also, it was odd to me that the audio narrator had an accent when the book took place in MN.

This is one of my favorite reads this holiday season...and not because it's especially sweet, or that it's especially hot...but it's...different. It's not this over-the-top joy to the world kinda book.

It's about hard times and dealing with life's challenges.
It's about not judging a book by it's cover and about what lies beneath the face-value assumptions we make.
It's about disability and sickness and family being beyond blood to bond together.
it's about acceptance and love.
It's about streng

On the one hand, I LOVED this story.
I love the way the disabilities are handled. The love of a family, the goodness and innocents of Bun.
The sweetheart called Kris, what a wonderful man. Loved Eddie. The snow globes and Kris' creativity and love of them and his bravery was really fitting to the heartwarming theme. I so wished Kris had gotten a better man! one who deserved the treasure he is.
On the other hand, I'm going to rant. You are being warned!
Now Tyr..well, let's just say, he did NOT
I was intrigued with this one because I saw one of the MCs had a Tourette's ... and I thought Kris was quite a lovely character. I would love to read more about him and his dealing with Tourette's. His connection with Bun, a girl with developmental issue, who is the cousin of Tyr (the love interest) was also lovely.

Unfortunately, I thought the story moved back and forth between Kris and Tyr a bit too quick for my taste. As quick that I couldn't feel that I've developed enough sympathy for the t

Lovely story! I liked the writing style a lot, adored the name Tyr, loved Kris' pretty unique word problem (I at least had never heard of that particular brand of Tourette's before), the snow globes were a good idea too, and Bun and her father were awesome.
Things got a little rushed at the end unfortunately, but still a great pro-Christmas read if you're in the mood for that!

Good depiction of migraines.

Very angsty.

The little guy tops!

Great that in the end, (view spoiler).

I wish he'd handled ex bf too.

This is an amazingly tender story, and one of those that took me totally by surprise. The way it is told is actually really clever, adding little bits and pieces to the whole picture as time passes, but it did make it more difficult for me to get into what was actually going on. Just like it must have been difficult for Kris, who suffers from Tourette's, to see some of the connections between the people of the small town he has made his new home. But what a rewarding feeling at the end when it ...more

Oh what a gem! I had problems in the beginning to get into the story, it felt a bit incoherent. But on the quiet it got to me. I loved the very distinctive writing style and this story could have been much longer. But that's the only niggle.

Good idea to start my reading year 2014 with this story:)

I've been celebrating the coming holiday with Christmas story after Christmas story and so far each story has been getting better and better. Well I think that streak may have ended because I don't know if anything will top this one for me.

I was going to try and explain how in less than 50 pages an author broke me into a million itty bitty pieces and did it beautifully, but then I realized I'd have to tell you about too much of this story and that would spoil it. So instead I'm going to say tha

I loved this story! It was so beautiful I just wish it had been longer. One of my favorites from the Heartwarming advent.
Chris, the Dalek King
No matter how cute the idea a town named Christmas may be, Kris has seen its dark side. Or, well, its ordinariness. Despite its cute shops, funny names, and claim to Christmas cheer, the town of Christmas is pretty much like every other town in the country. Gossips, small-town politics, bigotry…and some rather surprising and unique characters. For a man like Kris, his new home is both a perfect fit and a perfect nightmare. His self-made and designed snow globes are a hit. His blatant ...more
Kris Hamilton is an LA transplant to Minnesota, and a snow globe artist with an odd form of Tourette's that causes him to spout streams of synonyms when overexcited rather than epithets. (Perhaps in his case it should be called Roget's Syndrome) Kris is obviously and openly gay, yet, he's chosen to relocate to a small town in Northern Minnesota with a year round Christmas theme that he thinks will complement his artistic specialty. And while the locals welcome additional tourists and the ...more

This story had such a great potential and I'm afraid it got lost on the way, it has a wonderful beginning mind you.
Kris Hamilton was the most adorable character that suffered from Tourette syndrome, he is a charming lovely gay man who wants to be accepted for what he is, a nice person who also happens to have this Syndrome, luckily Tourette doesn't take over his life completely and managed to live a "fairly" normal life.

Until that point it was amazing, but the story jumps from one thing to anoth
Being from Minnesota, I am a little perturbed at how all us northern folk are depicted as a backwater highly religious community who will turn on those who don't fit. Man, c'mon...Don't switch one discrimination for another.

3.5 stars. The story was good, would have been great if it were longer.

Would've found this more enjoyable if the story/characters had been fleshed out more, especially the ending.

A "Live Your Life, Buy The Book" Review

The heartwarming part of this title is exactly what this book was. The characters were interesting and I felt connected to them right away. I adored them. I loved the idea of Kris taking a chance and moving to a town named Christmas to craft snow globes. This book was so charming.

The way the author explained Kris’s Tourettes through his actions so thoroughly was really impressive. I learned so much from his episodes by experiencing it with him. That

Overall.... 3.5
Performance... 3.00
Story.... 4.0

Okay, I listened to this book in audio form. It was Christmas and this short story is less than an hour which made it an ideal listen while I wrapped presents.

But as a regular audiobook listener, I had issues with this one. The narrator, while I love his sexy (Scottish? I think) accent, simply read the book. There was no change with his inflections for the different characters...which made this a really tough book to listen to. When readi

Right before Christmas, Kris gets a metaphorical kick in the pants from the town doctor, and he realizes that love never comes easy and if he wants this family to be his family, he will have to fight for it. After having a stand-off with the entire town, he goes about making the perfect plan to get his man back.

A really unique story and this is one I would love to see turned into a full length story. I didn't want it to end and would LOVE to read more of Kris and Tyr. The premise was very interesting and there was so much opportunity for more. Not that anything was missing or really unresolved I just loved the characters so much and not just the MC's, but Tyr's family had stories to tell too.

I found this story amazing. I have no words of how much I really liked this.

The characters that literally shine here are absolutely gorgeous and their flaws are simply what make them so lovable and undeniably charming...

Snow Globe was a short story (58 minutes). I both liked and disliked different aspects of this audiobook.
The narration: The narrator has a soft Scottish burr in his voice which actually made me think the story took place in Scotland. Until he mentioned that Kris moved from California to Minnesota. So we have a story about a Christmasy town in northern Minnesota told in a Scottish accent. While his voice was very nice to listen to, it was difficult to place as I had to remind

Kris Hamilton turned his online snow globe making business into something full time, buying into a store in Minnesota and moving his life across country. Only to be ceremoniously ostracized by his neighbors because he is different. Kris is tall, thin and has the appearance of an Anime character come to life, he’s gay and he has Tourettes. Any one of these characteristics would be frowned upon in this straight laced Midwestern town, but Kris seems to have nailed the trifecta.

When Tyr Tollefson an

Review posted on Books on Silver Wings blog:

The story is told with fragmented scenes in different POVs in chronological order. Usually, telling a story this way is too choppy and confusing but it works well for this short story. The boring puts are cut out and the story feels complete.

Kris moves into a small town and opens a shop where he makes and sells snow globes. He develops a crush on Tyr but due to a misunderstanding about his Tourette's, he thinks

Would you consider the audio edition of Snow Globe to be better than the print version?

Yes...and no. I love audiobooks, as I can do jobs while listening. But with this audiobook there didn't seem to any breaks in the reading, so it jumped around a lot, which you would see the breaks in the chapters in a printed format.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Snow Globe?

Bun opening her Christmas present from Kris.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Kris's go at the town's top brass.

Was this a bo
