It was fascinating to read this book and "Mohammed: A Prophet for our time" together, as they are written from two completely different perspectives on Mohammed. Spencer portrays a Mohammed that has inspired generations of hate, intolerance, and violence, while Armstrong portrays somebody with the attributes of Jesus. I found them both biased, and I suspect the truth is somewhere in the middle of the two opinions, but it was refreshing to hear somebody who wasn't scared to death to be ...more
Look at the reviews below that rate this less than three stars. They don't even comment on the content and references sited. I was very impressed with how meticulously the author referenced assertions and claims that would understandably upset those that follow Muhammad. No matter what side of the fence you are on before reading this book or listening to the CD version, truth is truth, and this author can't change truth. Do the research and be informed. A fantastic read and listen! AN ABSOLUTE M...more
"Fight them until no believer is seduced from his religion and Allah alone is worshiped." Muhammad, peace be upon him (yea, RIGHT!) The less one knows about Islam the more important it is to read this book. Traveling around the world apologizing for America, bowing to the Saudi King and singing kum by ya with those who want to destroy us is not the way to protect ourselves from these mad men. For those who are not Muslim, aka infidels, Muhammad and the Quran give three options: adm...more
This is exactly what it purports to be: a history of Muhammad; no more, no less; it is not a history of his religion after him, for example, but his life, as written by Muhammadans themselves, and it's a fairly ugly tale of mass murder, pedophilia, broken covenants, and abuse of women. Muhammadan policy is essentially the Scientologist "fair game" policy: when you're in the minority, make nice, tell lies like "religion of peace" or "compatible with democracy" or eve...more
Though often called a "religion of peace," the truth about Islam is quite the opposite, as is the truth about its founder, Muhammad. This book is no anti-Muslim screed, however; it takes its facts and ideas directly from Islamists themselves, from the Koran and the authoritative commentaries that have grown up around the holy book for over a milennia. Cut through the hype and the PR and go directly to the source: Muhammad was a robber, an unsuccessful proselytizer (couldn't convert the...more
If you think Muhammed was a man of peace, a man to be admired, and a man to be imitated, you need to read up on him. Muhammed was none of these things. The historical record is very clear. He was a man of violence, expediency, and is a man worthy of disdain.
This is a good extended introduction to Muhammed and Islam. For the most part Spencer avoids value judgments on the truthfulness of Islam, instead focusing on the ethics of Muhammed and his followers. With regard to these, ...more

I found this book extremely interesting and informative. The author pulls no punches and has been put on Islamic hit lists as a result. I admire his courage and conviction in the face of serious threats to his life. All it takes to support the assertion of the subtitle is to look at the documented history. Clearly those who maintain that Islam is a tolerant religion have not looked at the historical facts any more than Christians who make similar claims about their religion.
Seriously, this is bullshit. These people are just like us, trust me. Only problem is that their religion is about 800 years later then Christianity. Not sure if you’ve noticed that Christianity is isn’t all that advanced… now think of it 800 years ago. Great book, but just like a great many lazy Christians, there are plenty of Muslims that do not follow these extreme ideologies.

To know is to be fore-warned. To be fore-warned is to be fore-armed. This is NOT an easy thing to listen to. Sobering, insightful, and necessary for anyone who values Western culture and the global threats it faces.

An eye opener and not politically correct view into the teachings of the various Muslim books with extensive bibliography and expert rebuttals. The reader will be horrified with these teachings. To be fair, I plan to read "The Lies about Muhammad..." by Moustafa Zayed before I declare open season on muslims in general...
I thought it was pretty biased and a little boring.I didn't like how the author kept quoting stuff from message boards.Anybody can join a message board, pretend they're Muslim, and then post a bunch of crap.I'd read a book about the same subject,I just didn 't like this one.
A must read: very revealing regarding the genesis of Islam. "The child is the father of the man" -- given Islam's early days and the character of its father, it's no wonder that it often finds itself in violent conflict with democracy and modernity.
Interesting book about the nature of pan-Islamism and it's philosophical basis. Spencer keeps to sources of those that support that philosophy to provide context for his critique.
This is horrible,if it is going to be the formulation of western viewpoints towards muslims.
Still, I'm following the debates on it in internet.

To save myself from the onslaught of persecution, I will just say that this was a mind-opening book. He really addresses some important issues and questions that we all should be thinking.
It is easy to examine other religions, but it is much harder to look at your own beliefs and determine which ones that need to be evaluated.
Every Christian must study the life of Muhammad. I am not equipped to judge how accurate this biography is, but it is quite detailed.
Spencer provides a good explanation of why the only hope for fostering moderate Islam is the complete secularization of large sections of the Muslim world. Yes, of course there are crazy, intolerant, fundamentalist Christians and Jews who don't exactly help bring about world peace, but there is a much larger, and vocal, secularized (dare I say Westernized?) community to off-set the fundamentalists, and, at least for now, even fundamentalists abide by the laws of civil society. The question remai...more
I haveto sayit was not surprising. Much of the information I learned back in high school, however it is amustreadifyou want to know both sidesof the conflict. It definitelyopenedmy eyes in some areas...I would recommend it to almost everyone.
This is a great biography of Muhammad and an honest look into the mysterious world of Islam by understanding more about its founder!
This work is crap and a good example on how far islamophobia has gone in the western world.
Great job! Truly reveals the evils done by the founder of religion of Islam
Robert Spencer's works on the Religion of Peace are always a joy to read.
I received a greater understanding about what Muslims believe.
Robert Spencer has pulled out all stops to expose the truth about Muhammad. Robert Spencer (also the author of 'The politically incorrect guide to Islam') does not sugar coat Muhammad's hatred of the Jews and the Christians. Spencer is a real sandblaster and it is evident from his extensive research of the religion. He tackles the teachings with authority and lifts the burkha to expose the truth. A must read for anyone interested in learning about Muhammad, his life, his message and how its bein...more
