Kate's Creed: Thou shalt embrace singledom and be unbelievably, inconceivably happy.

YEAH, RIGHT.
Kate Meadows is a successful San Francisco artist looking for a nice, solid Christian man. So when not one, but two handsome bachelors enter her orbit in rapid succession, her head is spinning just a bit. Michael Palmier is a hunky and famous makeup artist who actually seems to be flirting with her-rather than her physically flawless housemate, Maia. Trouble is, he keeps handing her business cards fro...more

‘Perfecting Kate’- Tamara Leigh

Two men after the same woman sounds like most ladies’ dream. But, is it really? Not when neither one is the proverbial Prince Charming.
Kate Meadows is an artist from California. All she wants is to find a nice, suitable, Christian man to spend her time with. Naturally, she’s elated when two eligible bachelors pay her some attention. Bachelor Number 1 is, of all things, a make-up artist. Michael seems interested enough in Kate, but also sends mixed signals by sug...more

I adored this book. Kate is easy to bond with and to relate to. She is a real women who feels insecure about her body and looks and desperately is seeking a Godly man with a good character, to the point she is willing to change who God made her to land the man. Kate spends so much time trying to balance her work, love life and her faith all while trying to stay "perfect" both inside and out. Leah craftily placed God at the center of this book without coming across as preachy or overwhelming to...more

Although it took me awhile to settle into the rhythm of the writing style, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story by, Tamara Leigh.

Perfecting Kate, is written in the first-person with a contemporary writing style, befitting our modern day language. It didn't flow as easily for me at first, which was most likely because this particular style is not what I typically enjoy reading. However, it didn't take long for the characters to take over, steal my heart, and draw my attention away from the wri...more

I picked up Perfecting Kate by Tamara Leigh expecting it to be pretty typical Christian chick-lit. I was not disappointed. What I didn’t expect was to become so drawn in and invested in this story.

Kate Meadows has sworn off men for the second time this year. She is determined to be undeniably, inconceivably happy in her single-dom and focus on her relationship with God. But then, within days, she meets two very interesting men. Michael Palmier, a make-up artist who gives Kate a makeover, seems t...more

This was on some chicklit list so I put it on my queue who knows when ago. When it came, it was christian chicklit which there seems to be a lot of, but that didn't really bother me. It's kind of interesting. If someone talking about god a lot, or going to church bothers you, this book isn't for you. But that's not really the main point of the book. This woman lives in SF with a roomie, and she's a mural painter, but kind of sloppy, and she gets picked to be made over for a magazine, but then sh...more

"Thou shalt embrace Singledom and be unbelievably, inconceivably happy" is Kate's creed for the year, yet who is she fooling? The moment she meets Dr. Clive Alexander, her creed is tested. Until he agrees with her friend's comment about Kate's lack in the looks department. When she is picked to participate in a makeover that puts her in the hands of Michael Palmier, she figures that her problems are solved. Perfecting Kate was a book about a girl learning to accept herself. Kate is an artist who specializes in making murals for children. She is a little on the frumpy side, with a few extra pounds on her. She is commissioned to paint a large-scale mural for a new children's burn unit wing at a hospital. The man in charge of the burn unit is Dr. Clive Alexander, who lost his wife and son in a house fire four years ago. He still wears his wedding ring.

While this is going on, Kate and her roommate Maia...more

Oh dear. Not such a fan of this book. The end was definitely better than the start, but overall I didn't really like it. There was far too much of the main character's "self talk" going on. I had to keep back tracking what I had just read and ask, 'Wait, did she say that outloud? or in her head" Very confusing! There was also WAY too much Christian Lingo. It's one thing to write Christian fiction, but in my opinion, it should be done in such a way that it isn't tacky or offensive to someone outs...more

I'd give this a 3.5. Enjoyable, inspirational book, with some real issues women face - body image, difficulty having children etc. It was nice to have a heroine who seems "real." But some of the other characters were a little unbelievable.

SPOILER: The men in this book are really open about telling Kate what her physical faults are. Although I can see it's benefits in developing the body insecurties Kate faces (as do all women), I found it a bit unbelievable. In my experience, men do not regular...more

If you think a person who's 5'3" tall and weighs 134 pounds is fat and that anything less than fitted or form-hugging clothing is frumpy, then this is the book for you. Everyone else is likely to want to shake some sense into Kate (or feel bad about themselves) since she's (medically) the ideal weight and apparently wore non-baggy but comfortable, modest clothing before she started thinking it made her look ugly. One of the unique bits about this novel, though, is that rather than handling her d...more

When I bought this book I kept putting off reading - because of the cover. It kinda looks like someone I don't like very much and i didn't want to read a whole story about someone I don't like- Then I read it- and read it and read it! Now this is my absolute favourite book of all time! I read it at the very least once a year I love Kate and love her self discovery story. Every time I reread Perfecting Kate I get something out of it and can't wait until I read it again

I really liked the book overall. I liked the self-narrative style of writing. It reminded me of all the silly things that go through my head.
I thought some of the situations Kate got into were absolutely ridiculous. I did like the focus on her relationship with God. It was more-so than other Christian fiction I have read.
The basic plot was typical: Christian woman meets non-Christian man, falls in love, denies this love because he's not a Christian, eventually man becomes Christian, & then...more

Loved this book. About an infertile woman discovering herself in a culture obsessed with fertlity. One can't help but fall in love with Kate, the main character. She learns who she is in God's eyes and in so doing, learns that a man should love her because she is God's beautiful creation. Through out the book Kate journals her prayers to God and they are honest and beautiful prayers. Encouraged my relationship with God.

Great book on understanding inner beauty and your relationship with the Lord matter more than outer beauty. But emphasizing that you want to look nice on the outside so you feel good about yourself and keep your confidence up. Just spend more time on the inside than the outside!

Leigh, really took her time on this. At times the story seemed to take to long to where it was getting but I really liked the insight and the concept behind Kate's journey overall. I also really enjoyed her prayer journal and am considering starting one myself. But Leigh never creates the perfect Christian heroine. She keeps them real, with their warts, doubts and temptations in tack.

The cover grabbed me. I won't lie-I judge books by their covers and titles. We all have faults-which is exactly what this book is about. Faults and how we should be loved despite them. Beautiful story that makes you laugh and cry. A "good read". ;)

Christian chick-lit. Who knew this even existed? Salvation meets titillation in a giant salad bowl of mediocrity. Confused about the kind of religious authority (earthly or otherwise) that might endorse this drivel.

While this book started out strong - the typical make a so so girl a stunner - it went on a little to long.

I was bored with this book about 100 pages before it ended. But I finished it, which says something.

You know in a book when a character has a secret that they haven't told another character? And you sit there reading, wanting to shout "Tell them already!" Cuz it could drastically change things and they need to tell them? But they don't and it gets more complicated. Sigh...
Kate is an artist who is trying to grow in her faith but sometimes she gets it wrong. With a couple different love interests, she learns more about herself and what truly matters when it comes to beauty.

Again, I read to escape. This author was recommended to me and once again, did not disappoint. A good story about accepting and living the person that God created you to be.

If you are a shallow, immature and selfish pseudo-christian, this book is for you. The only saving grace of this TERRIBLY hypocritical and judgmental character is that she seems to tone down her psychopathy by the end of the book. But in the end, the only thing the liar of a main character is ever concerned with is herself. She lies to everyone from friends to love interests to God himself. And even when she stops (more or less), it’s hard to believe her intentions don’t simply revolve around ru...more

This is the kind of book that you can't put down until the last page! I have read and reread this book a few times! It's on my fav book shelf!

Kate was not a character you want to like. She is very annoying and she's a "do as i say, not as i do" kind of person. But the story was endearing and by the end she does realize that she needs to change her ways. The message of the book was good so overall I enjoyed it, I'm just not sure I would recommend it too highly though.

I loved it! It's one of those books that stays with you, long after you finish reading it. At least for me, it will.

Didn't like the beginning but it really picked up. Ended up loving the 2 main characters.
