This one is dry and academic but the details are astonishing in clarity. We live in world where 50 years after the fact it is possible to discover that we play, not in the fields of the lord (to reference the title to an excellent novel), but in the fields of elites who make all the relevant decisions which we take to be a natural life.

This one makes an excellent companion to the oil novels by Abelrahman Munif. Timothy Mitchell's article "McJihad" and Robert Vitalis's America's Kingdom: Mythmak
