Practical, skeptical Grace McDaniel was not looking for romance. The Sheriff of Lake Bluff, Georgia, and the granddaughter of a Cherokee doctor, Grace’s hands are full with the daily trouble of small-town life. Arriving in the wake of a freak storm is Ian Walker, a mysterious stranger who blends modern medicine and traditional Native American cures. Even though she is wary...more

Opening line: A storm beneath the Thunder Moon is both rare and powerful."

THUNDER MOON is the eighth and final book in the Nightcreature series, however I read this book as a stand alone and thanks to Lori Handelands returning cast of characters and generous back story I never felt confused. With a strong female lead, sexy but mysterious love interest, lots of entertaining secondary characters plus an intriguing paranormal mystery to solve this is a good read.

Grace McDaniel is the sheriff in Lake Bluff GA. Last summer she became aware of the supernatural world when werewolves showed up in Lake Bluff and started killing people. The Jacher-Suchers followed and assisted in the eradication of the problem. Now Grace calls them to say people are dying again in Lake Bluff and she needs their help. But the J-S are too busy to come to Lake Bluff, so Grace is left to her own resources and the help of Ian Walker, a mysterious new doctor, a Cherokee, like Grace....more

Native American mythology, male and female leads that are strong and yet needing to find Twu Wuv, nasty evil doings of a paranormal nature and yes, sex. Yep, we’re back here in the Night Creatures universe for the final time as the publisher pulled the plug. Probably a publisher with a low sex drive, I’m thinking. Or perhaps one, like me, who wanted to shake the person that told this author to forgo plot and a good story for the kama sutra. Whatever. The series is over, the man and woman have se...more

I was pleasantly surprised that I ended up sucked into this book. The heroine is a small town sheriff, with Cherokee blood. Grace McDaniel is capable and independent, and I liked her. She's tired and overworked but also irreverent and snappy. This is a supernatural romance, but instead of werewolves which I was expecting because of the world "Moon" in the title, the night-creature in this instance was one I'd never heard of before, so there were elements of Cherokee folklore that was n...more

I liked the good natured ribbing going on between Grace and her friend Claire Cartwright, the town Mayor. Also,we are treated to a bit more of Malachi Cartwright, the former Gypsy horse trainer turned husband and Daddy to little Noah. Through Ian Walker, the towns new doctor, Grace gets more in touch with her Native American heritage, her inner panther and killed the Raven Mocker, who'd been the cause of the deaths and missing hearts.

I broke my rule of reading series in order because I found a good deal on Thunder Moon and loved the other books in the series. As usual Lori weaves an amazing story revolving around Native American lore. Twists and turns, steamy interludes, brooding men, kick ass heroines, and she even threw in an adorable baby to make me chuckle. I will be keeping my copy so one day I can go back and read them in order, which is a sign of a great series!

A great fin of the series - witty writing, a sexy couple and a good story. I'm downright sad the series ended with that book.
The only thing I wished for was a conflation of the loose ends and an reencounter of the former protagonist at the end of this book. Like the Jäger-Sucher have the final showdown with the werewolves^^

Another great book from Lori Handeland. This is book #8 in this series. It actually takes a different play this time around which makes it very interesting.
You can say maybe a different creature this time? But you are left guessing so far into the book as to what the heck is doing the killing? It is a great mystery on top of a paranormal this time.
I don't want to spoil it for anyone so I will not say much about the killings.

I liked this book but to me it just didn't have the zing the rest of the series held but still all in all a good read and now I await the next in the series cause what can I say I'm hooked

I really liked this book. It was different from her other books which was good because sometimes it felt the story line was a repeat in all her books so I have to say it wasn't the case in this book.

actually a good mystery. still a little heavy on the romance for me (so obviously i need to switch genres, apparently this would be classified as a paranormal romance novel)

I liked it, but I am not impressed.
The fact that this is the second book in the series not to feature werewolves was a welcome diversion (and who could've known that I would one day say that?), but in the end I've got this suspicion that all that kept me reading and enjoying it was a feeling of familiarity.
This typical "Yes, this is a work by..." you get from authors you read for a long time.

Formally the characters and messages in the book are less questionable ...more

Normally, I love Lori Handeland's books, but for some reason or another, I wasn't about to get into this one. It was ok, but it could have been better

Follows from the last book nicely, but from Grace's viewpoint rather than Claire's. I liked the Cheyenne folklore and magic as the focus.

I love Grace! Snarkie as ever! I have a sign on the wall of my kitchen that says "Sarcasm is a service we offer here"! She had my humor & she was strong! To explain her strength, I would spoil it. sorry.

Ian was as sexy as all the great men in the "Moon" books. This one was my favorite, but it was resolved in 2 pages. Pretty fast.

I always go into this series thinking that I won't like "this" story, but I always do. This Author was a surprise...more

So glad Grace got her own hunk! I have found some of the others more believable but it was still an addictive read.

Not at all what I expected from a romance novel. It features a tough sherriff named Grace (who's "a whole lotta woman!") with a Cherokee background & experience hunting evil werewolves. In this novel she has to deal with a new MD/medicine man and an entirely different type of supernatural menace. Not being of Cherokee descent, I know nothing of their ways & the authenticity of those depicted in this novel. But myths & legends of all cultures fascinate me. Moreso if they can be incorpor...more

This book continues in Cherokee country, and follows the lead of Hidden Moon. A good plot with leads you really liked make this a really good book.

Another enjoyable read in the series. I really like Grace it was nice to get to know her a little better. I loved the use of Native American Indian legends to bring another creature to life. I do enjoy it when authors loosely base their baddies in recognisable mythology.

I did get a little confused at the end, it reads like it could be the end of the series but I know I have the next 3 waiting to be read :)

I really enjoyed this book and this series too. I liked how she blends Cherokee myths and Native American myths with the paranormal to write really good romance. Grace is a strong character and Ian is both sexy and mysterious which is always a good combination in my book. I enjoyed the mystery and the suspence of who the killer in town was. And no, you won't really guess who it is until the very end.
Sarah Horton
I enjoyed Grace and Ian's story. I especially loved the Chuck Norris humor thrown in - Chuck Norris can divide by zero. But was this a conclusion to the Nightcreatures tale or not? Are there more books, because it seemed like there might be, the ending was just not definite for me.

I love Lori Handeland's books. This book was a great one, however, I think it is my least favorite of her books, I didn't feel as much for these characters like I did her others.
