This had a promising start and interesting plot ideas. Many of those ideas were not that well executed though. The first half of the book could have been cut quite a lot: there was too much extraneous detail and I seriously considered giving up. By the time it got more exciting, there wasn't enough detail or explanation and I felt I was reading someone's very weird dream - many things weren't explained enough. This had a really promising start, but very quickly tailed off and lost my interest. I was disappointed that the main character lost her memory as the story went on, and feel it would have been much better if she had retained her memory - as it was, the loss of memory did not make any sense as he tried to make her retain her affection for her daughter and granddaughter, as if she didn't remember them, why would she feel any affection for them and want to protect them? Very weak.
I loved this book so much. I have no idea why it has such a low rating. Yes, there were a (very) few typos, but the book as a whole is amazing. Clara Bow is one of my favorite characters I have come across in a very, very long time. The book is fast-paced, with everything a reader could possibly want. Mystery, a race against time, adventure, fantastical creatures, rich character development, and just a hint of romance. I thought it was a perfect fit!
