James is approaching thirty, he's in a relationship with Ruth that is beginning to become routine at best, and he is unenthusiastic about his job as a librarian in Hammersmith. Then he meets Tad, a thirty year old wheelchair bound cripple, and a friendship develops which will prove to be the catalyst for change in James.
