This is book 3 in the Nikki and Michael series & I'd strongly recommend that you read the series in order. Although I won't give spoilers for Chasing the Shadows in this review it will be impossible not to include things that may spoil the previous books so if you're new to the series I'd recommend you read the reviews for Dancing with the Devil. This is a series I'm thoroughly enjoying so I'd definitely recommend you check it out!

This is a series I'm thoroughly enjoying so I'd definitely recommend you check it out!

Nikki & Michael have now been a couple for several months but although they are very happy together Michael's work with the Circle has meant he is spending a lot of time away from their home. Nikki isn't happy that he leaves her behind & wants to be able to work with him. She knows her talents have been useful in the past and believes she can help him. Michael on the other hand is determined not to let her put herself in danger - he wants to protect her and the best way to do that is to keep her away from Circle business. This is causing a lot of conflict between them so Michael isn't happy when he comes home from a case to find that Nikki is in San Francisco working on a case with Jake.

Women are being kidnapped and although the ransoms are being paid their mutilated bodies have started turning up. The latest kidnapping victim is Jake's best friend's wife and they need to work fast if they are going to find her before she is murdered. But it isn't just a normal killer they are dealing with and Michael has also been asked to investigate by the Circle.

This was a fantastic installment to a great series & I can't wait to read the next book. I love Nikki & Michael and am really enjoying watching their relationship develop. The romance is really well done but it is only part of the story and there was plenty of action that kept me on the edge of my seat. Nikki's psychic abilities are changing since Michael made her into a Thrall and I'm really curious about what is going to happen to them in the future. Keri Arthur has definitely earned a place on my favorite authors list & I'm looking forward to reading more of her books. I'd recommend this series to any urban fantasy fans - especially if you like a little romance thrown in for good measure(less)

I always enjoy Keri's books, and this continuation of the story of Nikki and Michael was fascinating. As Nikki starts to realise what powers she now has, she has to battle with the protective instincts of a 365 year old vampire who is terrified he will somehow lose her.
Their love isn't questioned as they battle with a new and horrifying killer and his minions, the question is whether they can stay together if half of Michael's life is hidden from Kate.

Nikki’s friend and boss Jake called Nikki to come to help him with a case. His friends wife is missing and they need to find her. Since Nikki has the psychic ability to find people she agrees. She also leaves because she’s bored at home. She wants to be a team with Michael, going with him on assignment, though he disagrees because he thinks it’ll be to much of a danger, though Nikki’s life is always in danger and she doesn’t seem to see it his way. Though danger comes in a form of a vampire the moment she get’s into her room.

When Michael arrives he’s furious. He can’t believe that she just left without thinking of the consequences. Her abilities are growing at an alarming rate and he’s worried that someone might be able to tap into her mind or she’ll get lost in someone else’s. Though since he’s there he just lets her search for the missing woman (knowing he’ll never stop her) and helps her along the way. Nikki finds that the woman has been taken by a vampire whose soul purpose is to ruin this woman life. Not only this one but many more, like her bosses wife,Mary, who went to school with the man who is now a vampire. Through Nikki’s stubbornness she loses someone close to her and it takes all she’s got to get rid of the man who did it.

This book was a good one. There was more drama in this one and Nikki really has to grow up. She learns that if she doesn’t she’ll lose everything. Plus Michael is becoming more of a positive, he’s learning to deal with Nikki in a whole new manner and it’s not so frustrating between those two. I like this series, like most of Keri Arthur’s books, though this one is more of a romance then the other series she wrote. Very good plot line and goes great into the fourth one!!(less)

This is the fourth book in the Nikki and Michael Vampire series and it’s a good one. Even though sometimes Michael’s chauvinistic tendencies make me want to smack him, his reasoning is good and Keri Arthur’s superb characterisations let you see the argument from both sides and the deep emotions behind them. Nikki gives as good as she gets though so you don’t have to smack her either for giving in to him. I also like that for both of them, their abilities aren’t without limit and can have consequences that are often very painful. Nikki’s business partner Jake is as acerbic as ever and it was good to see him back in the game proving that being a human amongst thralls and vampires doesn’t mean you aren’t capable of holding your end up in a tough situation. The plot was good, if a little simplistic but I don’t think it actually needed to be any more complicated, it would have detracted a lot from the emotions running alongside it all. The ending of the book did come as a complete surprise and it did make me cry, so be warned, you may need tissues!

Nikki and Michael are back in book three of Keri Arthur’s Nikki and Michael series. Nikki, a telepath and telekinetic, has had enough of playing house and waiting for Michael’s return from a mission. Things have been going well for the duo, but their relationship is still strained by Michael’s old-world ways sometimes. It’s nice to have a little tension in the relationship as it grows, but sometimes I felt it was overdone. The story this time takes us to San Francisco, and back to Jake, Nikki’s...more Nikki and Michael are back in book three of Keri Arthur’s Nikki and Michael series. I was glad of the change of scenery as the first two books in the series both featured plenty of time spent in caves, and we often get numerous repetitions about what happened to Nikki in a cave in the first book (won’t say what happened as it might spoil things for people). However, we did end up spending plenty of time underground again, this time in the sewers, but I could deal with that as it’s still a change from caves and vampires have got to hide somewhere during the day.

Michael returns from his mission with a yearning to see Nikki at his remote cabin and a present in his pocket that isn’t something sensual. A certain token for his love. The trouble is, she’s headed out to the same mission he’s just been assigned to, and now he’s chasing her across the country rather than enjoying a nice lazy reunion full of lovemaking. When he eventually catches up with his wayward love, she’s neck deep in trouble again. Together they go through various highs and lows with plenty of suspense tossed in to keep me flipping pages, and the odd scuffle between the lovers to keep things interesting, although sometimes it goes too far. Nikki becomes a little irritating in this one as she clearly doesn't know when she's on to a good thing and seems fairly determined to force Michael out of her life or get him killed. She came off as a bit petulant and childish in places. Nikki's powers are growing in this one, and it seems they're affecting Michael too, which makes it quite interesting, but they didn't grow enough to be particularly exciting. Nikki has also picked up some pyrokinetic abilities from book two as well.

I really enjoyed this story, but it started to feel a bit repetitive having read the first two. The author has stock phrases that she uses around twenty times per book each and it did start to grate on my nerves a little. The editing in this book sucked too. Lots of mistakes that really leapt out at me, and some times when the writing was really below par. I wanted this book to be as great as the first two, but it fell short due to the editing and repetition, and playing on Michael being over-protective, and also had a fairly predictable sad moment that didn’t actually gain much emotional reaction from me because I didn’t feel the person who died was emotionally involved or close enough to Nikki to actually warrant such a strong reaction from her. There was nothing in this book or the previous ones that made out they were very close. I still enjoyed Michael and it’s nice seeing him battling his darkness to keep control around Nikki, although sometimes I wished he’d let a little of that darkness out to play. I do enjoy a good biting scene. It might have bumped this one up to a four in spite of the bad editing and repetition. If you’ve read the previous two, then do continue, but be warned that there are some nasty editing errors ahead.(less)

I love this series, it is almost as good as the Riley Jensen series, though not quite.

The main relationship issue between Nikki and Michael could've been handled better on both their parts. It drove me a bit batty. Especially with Nikki.

Unfortunately this issue seemed to subsume the plot, which had a villain that was very cliche and one note (think 80s high school movie).

While this was not my favorite installment, this is still an interesting series and I look forward to the next one.

Chasing the Shadows is about growth, but not without growing pains.
Michael is trying to keep Nikki away from danger (300 yr old vampires are such bossypants), but they must work together with Jake to solve the mystery of kidnapping and murder. I have enjoyed the series so far and look forward to book 4!

Nicki is starting to realise how much power she now has. Her love for Michael is never in question but can she stay with him if she only sees half his life. Michael is trying to keep her out of the circle because he can’t let her get hurt, he loves her so much he can see his life without her. I loved this book, as I have the whole series so far! The characters are just awesome; Michael is so sweet, but also major kickarse when he needs to be and Nikki makes a refreshing change to the usual 'bow down and behave' women in some of the stories I have read. She is amazing, sticks up for herself and what she believes in and takes no shit from anyone. Am going onto the last book right now!

Damn this installment really made me nervous...Nikki and Michael are sooooo damn stubborn. Just the right about of action and passion. Nikki is really evolving but in to what who knows, not even Seline can get a handle all the changes that she's experiencing. This had a couple of twists that were unexpected which bad the story better for me. Ever notice how when a person could be ripped away that the one in denial will suddenly realize how much he wants to be with that person?

Finally they are together. Happily ever after finally. Still, I feel there should be another book in this series.
