When Jackie and I first purchased Rowan and Gizmo (both rescues from other homes,) we didn't realize how LITTLE information there actually was on their care in print. Since so many of the books had conflicting information (one of them even suggested CAT FOOD as a source of protein!) we turned to the internet. The great folks at SunCoast Sugar gliders were extremely helpful, as were all the great people with tons of advice on the sugar forums at glidercentral.com
This was the only book at my library specifically addressing the care and nurture of sugar gliders. There is some good information (and some adorable photos), but some, like the dietary recommendations, is outdated. If you want information on taking care of sugar gliders, I recommend searching online instead.
With the addition of a new family member, I thought this book would be good to help introduce her way of living to us!
This book was very helpful in explaining what to expect, what to do, some what not to do's.
Pepper, the sugar glider, has made a wonderful addition to our family. However, it doesn't mean that every family should have one. They require a lot more care than your average dog or cat, but I will be the first to say they are a lot more fun than any hamster or gerbil I've ever had.
