The charm of this book (and it is charmingly written and equally charmingly illustrated by the author) is that I lived through so many of the incidents recorded; I even attended quite a number of them so could unknowingly have met up with the author all those years ago as we played impromptu games at the lunch and tea intervals.

He writes lovingly of Lancashire cricket in the 1950s and the heroes of the day. One of them was a particular hero of mine, Brian Statham who if the batsman missed would
