Chrissy (The Every Free Chance Reader)
Did I enjoy this book: I did enjoy Sugar Spun Sister. It was a fun read that had me glued to my Nook, reading every free chance I had.

Cricket is a young woman with big dreams but not quite enough courage to take a step towards realizing those dreams. She is in a job that she knows how to do; unfortunately, her boss has no faith in her abilities whatsoever. What does Anna dream about doing? Owning her own ice cream shop. She is rather talented when it comes to creating fabulous ice cream flavors.

Anna Garner pens another hit! I know without a doubt that when I read an Anna Garner novel, I'm going to feel good. "Sugar Spun Sister" is no exception. With her fast-paced writing style, extremely likeable voice and a delicious and heart-warming tale, Garner has created the first in what is sure to be a very popular series. Cricket is an adorable main character, and I fell in love with her friends and family, laughing at their many antics as Cricket pursued her dream of opening an ice cream ...more

She got the job after the agency she worked for went under and her wealthy and influential Uncle Jonathan, who had given Oscar the seed money to start his business years ago, asked Oscar to hire her. Which might be why he hates her and constantly tries to provoke her into resigning.

Imagine this : You are Twenty Seven years working for an annoying gargoyle-looking jerk of a boss, who enjoys making your life hell. And thinks you are a useless charity case, since you got your job through your extremely generous gay Uncle Jonathan who loves to help others out by giving funds to people who have vision but lack funds. But then you would think that your boss Oscar the Gargoyle would be nicer seeing that he benefited from your Uncle's generosity. But that is so not the cas

This is my second time reading Anna Garner and I loved Sugar Spun Sister just as much as Lying to Meet You---something I really didn't think could happen!

Sugar Spun Sister is Cricket Whittier's story. Cricket has a boring job with a boss who hates her. Her boss thrives on making Cricket's life miserable. To top that off, Cricket's flame, Jimmy, just wants to be "friends with benefits" while she wants a relationship. But, Cricket has a something of her own: her passion is creating unique ice crea

Author Anna Garner (aka Libby Mercer) has created a sweet new series called Sweet Dreams that is centered around a trio of best friends, and the forming of their business partnership in a gourmet ice cream shop called Sweet Dreams.

In Sugar Spun Sister, the first book of the series, the reader is introduced to Cricket Whittier and her best friends Lindsay and Nora. Set in San Francisco, this sweet tale follows ad copywriter Cricket Whittier as she deals with a job that she hates and a boss with a

The story revolves around Cricket, a woman who hates her job, has a boss from hell and who's love life just can't seem to go right for once. Though even with all these problems, Cricket knows what she wants from life, though for now all she can do is dream about the day that dream finally comes true. This isn't just a story about love and romance, its about friendship and everything that gets in the way of life when you least except it as well.

There is nothing Cricket wants more than to open he

Shortly after receiving an ice cream maker as a gift, Cricket discovered her ability to create amazing ice cream flavours. Taking inspiration from every day events, she can blend together ingredients that represent her mood, her relationships and her surroundings and each new creation is gratefully received by her dessert testing friends.

Cricket’s friends believe she should go into business, delivering her delicious recipes to the masses but aside from catering for the occasional event, such a d

If you want a fun, fast, highly entertaining read, look no further than Anna Garner’s latest release. I blew through this book in less than 48 hours and enjoyed every minute I spent with Cricket Whittier and her crew. Cricket is not your usual sleek, sophisticated Chick Lit heroine – she has wild hair, a dragonfly tattoo on her arm, and a gap in her front teeth, all of which make her delightfully unique and relatable. She’s, also, got some wacky hippie parents and siblings named Dusk and Sage, ...more

Review: wow! I loved Ana Garner's First novel, last year but I think I loved this one even more, and better than that, this is the first novel in a new series which she has written. I love the cover of this novel too, it would look gorgeous in paperback! I literally couldn't out this book down because it was such a fun easy read and yet at the same time a real page turner. The book deals with strong themes from friendship and entrepreneurship something which not many books I've read recently ...more

The biggest element I look for when I pick up a Chick-Lit title is fun. Sugar Spun Sister by Anna Garner dishes up a winner that will have fans lining up for seconds and thirds.

I adored the main character, Cricket Whittier. She is someone I could easily relate to and someone who I would be friends with. I really enjoyed the scenes with her and her two best friends, Nora and Lindsay the most. I got a really good sense of how close this trio is and how far they will go to be there for one another

Sugar Spun Sister by Anna Garner (who also writes under the name Libby Mercer) is a fun, quirky story with a New Agey feel to it.

Cricket Whittier is totally frustrated at work. Her boss doesn’t like her and is determined to make her life miserable. As her rage builds during the day, Cricket finds peace when she gets home by making ice cream, and she dreams of one day opening her own ice cream shop. Her friends, Nora and Lindsay, encourage her to follow her dreams and make someday into something

Cover love! I absolutely love this cover! It is just so cute and it makes me want to read about that adorable girl on the cover. And I love the colors! And I love the fact that she is standing behind an ice cream counter. Yum, ice cream! Yep, that about covers the cover!

I have now read several books by Anna Garner (aka Libby Mercer) and have loved them all. I am thinking that this one could be my favorite, for now anyway, depending on what she writes next. Anna's storytelling talent hits an all

Anna Garner has a way with...characters. You just fall in love with them. Or, at least I do. With her debut, Lying to Meet You, I was head over heels for main character Chloe. And with Sugar Spun Sister, I was charmed by Cricket, the daughter of hippy parents who takes a huge leap of faith to follow her dreams. In particular, I loved Cricket's family. Her brother Sage was so funny with his LA actor issues (I really laughed at his feud with fellow actor Kirk who was stealing all his parts - only ...more

Cricket is at a dead end job. Her boss is misery itself and loads her up with horrible tasks that are no where near her job description. To get away from all her stress, Anna loves to create new flavours of ice cream when she is at home. Can her dream of opening up her own little ice cream shop become a reality?

Sugar Spun Sister is the first part of the Sweet Dreams series. Every book will focus on either Cricket (who makes the start with this first one) or Nora and Lindsay (Cricket’s best frien

I have read a few of Anna Garner’s works and loved them all, but this is my new favorite. I cannot tell you anything that I did not like. The characters, especially Cricket, were amazing. Each one was real and down to earth, making them easy to relate to. Cricket made me laugh the most, with her crazy (even she calls them that) family and her amazing skills at making ice cream she kept me smiling the whole book. Lindsay and Nora are a girls best friends, for real. They both build up Cricket’s dr

How do you help your best friend better her life when she’s stuck in a miserable copywrighting job (and a boss who hates her), a relationship that will never make it past “friends with benefits” (or so her boyfriend says), and who has the uncanny knack to make life’s situations tastefully yummy while developing amazing ice cream flavors in her kitchen? Well, Lindsay & Nora help and encourage Cricket Whittier to open her own ice cream shop.

Cricket has always wanted to open up her own shop one

Sugar Spun Sister was such a fun book. Anna Garner has such talent for creating original, quirky and well fleshed out characters and this book was no exception. I had a great time tagging along with Cricket, Lindsay and Nora as they turned Cricket's dream of opening an ice cream shop at "some point" to the present time. My favorite character was Cricket's brother Sage and I'm hoping they'll be a romance for him in one of the later installments! I loved that Cricket's parents were hippies two ...more

Born and raised in the Midwest, Anna Garner's adventurous spirit kicked in after graduating from high school, and she's since lived in Boston, NYC and London. For several years, Anna worked in fashion--first as a journalist and then as a shopkeeper, and for a while she dabbled in design. Although chick lit was her first love, Anna started writing quirky romances, and her first one, Fashioning a ...more
