This is the debut novella by Alyssa Stark and it is enjoyable and romantic. It is only a novella so the plot fairly skips along, as do most novellas. A lot of effort has been put into these characters to make them 'real' and to a certain point, that succeeds. The one character where I feel this has fallen short is that of John Campbell. This book started out so promising. I love historical romances! I love the way they develop. But the ending completely ruined this book for me. It was rushed, and really, it was transparent. It's as if the author couldn't figure out how to show a real change and development in their character, so the way it all unfolded, just felt cheesy. If the ending were re-written on this, I would gladly give it 5 stars. But as it is, I wouldn't recommend anyone waste their time on this. It was definitely a ...more
