First in the Cuttersville humorous urban fantasy series taking place in this small town in Ohio.

My Take
This was cute. A nice bit of comic relief from some of the heavy reading I've been doing.

I do enjoy Boston's reaction to a farming community with its heart attack special at the Busy Bee Diner and the lack of Starbucks. He's not used to considering other people's feelings nor with that downhome friendliness of a small town. He loves the old, creaky, fussy house he's staying in too. Nothing cou...more

A Date with the Other Side

Passionate, Flirtation, and plain old lust who doesn’t like a good romance novel. I recently found myself devouring one this weekend. Date with other side is sexy, sassy, and filled with humor. It’s filled with sensuality, lots of laughs, and a touch of paranormal. The author, Erin McCarthy delivers a novel with enough romance to have you begging for more. This delightfully story of a down-home country girl and the big-city boy she snags will have you laughing even as y...more

I thought this was the cutest love story/trashy romance that I have ever read! I am actually considering buying it! Maybe I liked it so much because I started reading it with such low expectations. I didn't think it would be funny and sexy at the same time. Realistically, I was expecting cheesy humor with a few dirty sex scenes thrown in for good measure. It wasn't. It was...well, cute. I actually liked both of the main characters. Really. I know, I'm as shocked as you are.
By the way, I have to...more

A Date with the Other Side, by Erin McCarthy is a book about a country girl who doesn’t date that often. I mean she hasn’t had a date in 3YEARS. That is a little too much but anyway she finally after that long finds this guy, laying in her grandma’s cottage and their eyes meet and she falls in love. The ironic thing is that he is a city boy and she is a country girl. Then she finally finds her true love and they get married.
The thing that I really like about this book is that the title is so...more

I seriously can't find a book that I wouldn't give Erin McCarthy 5 stars. In A Date with the Other Side, Shelby Tucker is a tour guide for all the haunted areas in Cuttersville, Ohio. She is a 26 yr old who was previously married for 5 years after divorcing for certain reason I will not say. While giving a private tour for her cousin she comes across a very sexy naked man laying in one of the beds, and this man is certainly alive, blood flowing and everything.
Boston McNamara is an exec at Samas...more

I'm generally a huge fan of Erin McCarthy, but this book was a disappointment. McCarthy's writing is uneven in that her contemporary work is some of my favorite - bright, delicious, clever, satisfying - while her supernatural work is more flat, less intriguing, the characters less likable.

This book is something in between. The writing is proficient but nothing exceptional or exciting. The characters are not terribly likable. I actually disliked the hero from the beginning, and although he becam...more

Summary: Shelby lives a seemingly dull life in the small town of Cuttersville, OH. That is until she walks in on Boston MacNamara, sleeping naked, while doing her "Haunted Cuttersville" tour. This is only the first of many times during which she will see him naked, or vice-versa. A romantic tale of love, premarital sex, and ghostly voyeurs.

Review: This book has earned a distinction: it is the first romance novel that I have successfully finished. I might have claimed that I finished the last one...more

This was a good book but I wouldn't call it great. I liked it well enough but I wouldn't tell you to run out and buy it. It wasn't so great that I would necessarily recommend it either. Something I didn't love about the book or the series is out seemingly dumb the woman tend to be. Just because they live in a rural town does not make them less educated or backwards.

Something that did bug me about Shelby is that because of her dyslexia she was played down some. It was like her only goals were goi...more

A Date with the Other Side: A fun read that will leave you happy and sated

So, yesterday I had the pleasure of reading my first Erin McCarthy novel. It was Hot Finish, one of her racing novels and boy did I love it. So, I decided to read another novel by her. This book was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed reading about the endearing heroine Shelby and the cute hero Boston. However, more than I liked the romance , I loved the meddling grandmother. Its a really cute and quick novel- perfect for a...more

It is more "straight" romance than paranormal romance. The ghosts involved in the story are more for background or supporting "characters".

A Date With The Other Side is about Shelby Tucker, a guide for tourists for the most "haunted" houses in Cutterville. She may not believe in ghosts herself, but it is a way to pay the bills. She has never seen or experienced a haunting herself. However, she is pretty startled to find a naked man in a bedroom of one of the haunted houses that is on her tour....more

Shelby Tucker has always just gone with the flow, she married young and divorced her high school sweetheart, not because they fought or disliked one another, he just wasn't it. Shelby has never expected more than what life has to offer and one of those is giving ghost tours to tourists.

Boston Macnamara doesn't know why his boss sent him to Cuttersville, but he is not happy about it. Point in fact waking up nude to have a pixie of a woman checking out his goods and talking in crypted speak that...more

Ok, Erin McCarthy is becoming one of my favorite authors! I was gonna give u a little taste of this book, but I'm afraid I would rewrite the whole thing for you! I was laughing thru most of this book, ant's butt, lol. I just love Erin's writing and her sense of humor! I can't wait to get the rest of the series from the library, even tho, I think I will have to own this series! Loved it!!

And she's back ladies and gentlemen... This is the Erin McCarthy I fell in love with from the first book. I absolutly adored Shelby. I laughed with her, I cried with her and I even got scared with her. This was book was great fun with a lot of sexiness to boot (Boston)... You want a sassy romance that's funny all at the same time, this is it! A+ Ms. McCarthy!

This is pretty close to a perfect guilty pleasure book. Basically the whole plot revolves around when (not if) Boston and Shelby will sleep together, except with the added bonus of haunted houses and humor. The story begins as Shelby barges into Boston's house, where he's sleeping naked, and this hilariously written comic scene involving a too large (or too small?) hole in the eyelet bed spread. It's funny, the ghost aspect is unique, and the sex scenes are very well written and S-T-E-A-M-Y. If...more

Ugh, this was absolute torture. I don't know what it was, but I just could not like the book no matter how hard I tried. I didn't care much for any of the characters in the entire book and I was so bored. I love paranormal stuff, but I hate reading about ghosts. I think they are annoying and just plain boring.
Amanda
Is it bad that after reading this I want my own Boston Macnamera. Not only do I love his name, but SWOON! I liked this book just a bit better than Heiress For Hire because I could relate to Shelby a bit more. But I bet if I read this book before Heiress For Hire I would have loved that book just as much. This book sets up everything perfectly and gives you the backstory for HFH. And while the ending is a bit predictable (I mean, come on, you KNOW they are going to end up together) it is just so...more

I've read some of Erin McCarthy's other books and they were so much better than this. I don't like either of the main characters; none of the funny moments were actually funny; the supernatural aspect was barely visible, no pun intended; so I put the book down.

I will go and read other books by Erin McCarthy, because I know she is better than this, but I will skip the rest of this series.
Dawn ♥ romance
Plot was good, some steamy sex, and parts pretty funny but it didn't grab me like some of her other books. I got tired of the standard tension in building a relationship. City slicker Boston is sent to oversee factory in country town Ohio and meets haunted house tour guide Shelby.

This book was really great, but I wish that there was something that would have said this book was first in a series before the Heiress for Hire. I enjoyed that book too, but I would have enjoyed it more if I had read this one first.

Matchmaking grandmas and ghosts make me tired. What kept me reading this one was Shelby's character. I liked her solidness and honesty and the choice she had to make between safety and passion felt authentic.
Melanie
Funny and romantic. Filled with an interfering grandmother, some real active ghosts (including a mooing dead cow--have to read the book to get it), and a chance at love for two people meant to be together.
Mahyar
I already knew what happens at the end from it's sequel "Heiress for Hire" but it didn't make it any less entertaining, Erin McCarthy books are utterly AWESOME.

None of her books were boring so far, all of them are enjoyable.
Leah
I am embarrassed to add this to my goodreads and claim that I read it. Predictable, very graphic and not so good. Unless you love graphic romance novels do not read it.
Katie
This is the first book I've read by Erin that wasn't an anthology. It was okay...a little slow but entertaining enough. The ghost stuff was pretty lame.
Louisse S.
The love story is cute! I like it especially with ghost characters lurking around the corner. Who would've known that they were already dead?
The Romance Bookie
I really liked the story and the characters from this book. The book was quite dirty in some parts so I definitely only recommend this book to mature adults. This book would probably be rated X.
Marianna
It could have been interesting, I guess, if it didn't annoy me so much. I think I liked the cover more than the content...shiny gold, oooh.
