I stumbled across this book in the library while I was in the Armed Services. The author, Madeleine Kent, described a world foreign to me. One particular passage has stood out for me over the years: A well-to-do Jewish woman defended the Nazis while the circle of repression was closing around her. The author noted that the day came, after having lost all her rights, when the Nazis took her away her, too. The book made a big impact on me at the time.
