Shelves: romance, steamy
A serviceable romance, though I didn't connect strongly with any of the characters. This wasn't helped by being the fourth in a series I hadn't read at all (I picked it up as part of a bundle). The plot was, also, serviceable.

I actually liked the story more than the plot, if I can make the distinction. Gwen as a Navy pilot lost in the Philippines for six months and wanting to adopt the child she rescued (while there) was intriguing and Krotow did a fantastic job of making that have real weight w

Very good book that kept me hooked from the very beginning. It starts with Gwen flying the mission that goes bad, and fades to black as we're left to wonder what happens. It picks up six months later as her ex-husband Drew learns that Gwen is alive. Not only is she alive, but he's apparently the only one who can help her reaclimate after her return. I enjoyed the main characters and the clarity with which Ms. Krotow presents the challenges of a dual service marriage, deployments and PTSD without hyper-dramatization, which is nice. These aspects are a part of the storyline, not characters in themselves.

The way the plot device of the unbalanced person (trying not to 'spoil' here!) attempting to 'reclaim' the affections of the target of her obsession is an age-old one and the way it was introduced reminded me of gothic-y melodramas...but it wo

From word one of the prologue -- yes, there's a prologue and it's awesome -- this reunion romance grabbed me. The characters are mature thoughtful HUMANS -- not just characters serving a plot.

Also, lurv the details of Navy life and Whidbey Island -- they make this a great read!

Geri Krotow's Navy Rule is the real deal story of life and love in the U.S. Navy. Her background as a Naval officer has given her a unique perspective in creating a heroine who's struggling to balance career and family. Big time thumbs up. I finished it in two days!
