That this book is a collection of essays by my late brother does not, I hope, prevent me from reading and reviewing it with some degree of objectivity. The many considerations of poets and aspects of poetry which make up the main sections of the book are astonishingly thorough. I don't think any reader could fail to be impressed by the way in which Dennis can locate references within a poem to the work of other poets or to a previous poem by the same poet and can point to threads of subject ...more

Dennis O’Driscoll was born in Thurles, County Tipperary, Ireland in 1954. He published nine books of poetry, three chapbooks and a collection of essays and reviews. He also edited and compiled contemporary quotations about poets and poetry, and published Stepping Stones, a collection of his interviews with Seamus Heaney. He died in Naas, Co. Kildare on Christmas Eve, 2012.
