The Children of the Night have found a way to use the sun to their advantage...They are the Day Men.

For thousands of years, the world has been controlled by the "50 Families" -- a secret network of vampire covens engaged in a timeless struggle for power. But when the sun rises, the vampires are forced to employ the services of a human who acts as their daytime fixer and pr

This is a book about vampires…

“Wait! (Reader, insert your name here), where are you going? Come back!”

I know. It could be worse. It could be another zombie book. Right? Right!?!

*le sigh*

The books centers on the “Day Men”, humans who take care of vampires’ needs during the day, while their undead employers are “sleeping”. This isn’t a novel concept, both Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot and the film, Fright Night had humans doing vampire dirty work. What makes this different from those examples is this

This past year I’ve been trying out a wide variety of new series by buying a ton of #1 issues. I’ve got a good sense of the Big Two (DC and Marvel), so most of these #1s have been from other publishers, often written and drawn by people I’ve never heard of. If the art looks interesting and the plot even slightly worth checking out, I’ve done so. And I have to say that about 75% of the time, I don’t want to buy issue #2. But I’ve found a few series that are amazing. Perhaps the one that has ...more

This first volume, or the first narrative arc, was a long time in coming. Gagnon and company published their first issue of Day Men last year, and I was intrigued by the premise: highly trained specialists who worked for and supported vampire populations in daytime conditions unfavorable to the legendary bloodsuckers. I thought at the time that day men might be something similar to Shabbos goys, at least in concept. But of course this story is much more involved than that, and I've enjoyed ...more

Who watches over vampires during the day? David Reid knows, because he’s one of them. Trained, trusted, and ultimately disposable. A servant of scary, scary masters, right when all kinds of hell are about to break loose.

Nelson wrote Hexed, one of my favorite comics, so I knew he could tell a good creepy story. Teaming up with Gagnon has created a multi-layered story with just as much dread and human pain, but far more conspiracy and suspicion. Stelfreeze and Moore are a great pair as well. I esp

I don't know why no one talks about this book. It is one of the best books I've read from Image Comics. Brian Stelfreeze is the best.

Beautiful premise and soundly executed! I am excited to read more. I can't say that about many new comic books series nowadays.

Reminiscent of True Blood and Twilight, but in a good way.

I had the pleasure of meeting Matt Gagnon at WonderCon. He stood behind a BOOM! Studios table. I asked him if he had written any of the books on the table, and he told me about Day Men, a series about a man hired to do vampires' work during the day. He asked me if I liked noir. My response was, "I like Manhunter, which is based on Red Dragon." I could have also told him about my love for Blade Runner, but this statement was enough to make him smile as he explained that Michael Mann was an ...more

This book was great. Love vampires? This is your kind of book. Love fighting, blood, and intrigue, again, this is your sort of book.

I loved it except when it ended. Hey, so did Jacob The Burner take the challenge! I need to know! BTW love the main character David. Dashing, strong, fast, smart, AND he has a kind heart. Aw.

BTW Jacob the Burner and David are humans. Day Men, exactly, oh there's vamps for us fans but it's a story about humans working for vampires. This is not your typical vampire

A refreshing new vampire story focusing on the human henchman/fixer (Day Man or Sundog) of one of the Fifty Families that control the vampire world. Vampire clans work much like mafia families here, and when sundog David is sent to retrieve a clan vampire off on a bender, he comes across what might be a setup to provoke an inter-family war.
Good artwork and world-building, concentrates on story development, not on gratuitous booty (there is a bit here & there, but not tons)or broodiness (othe

Recommends it for: Comics and vampire fans!
So, the vampire genre has been through the ringer the last decade but here, writer Matt Gagnon delivers something different. He crafts an interesting drama about those who work for the ruling vampire families. Its got elements from many different sources but somehow feels original. Brian Stelfreeze, a comics veteran, does a fantastic job illustrating these interesting characters. The world that's created is full of potential and I really look forward to reading more.

As well trodden as vampire fiction is, Day Men still finds an original twist. I am admittedly surprised that the story was so good as I bought it strictly on the basis of Brian Stelfreeze's artwork. I sincerely hope the creative team stays together long enough to finish out the story. It's very good.

I think I'd rate it higher if I had more to read. Sorry! It just ends kinda abruptly here. Interesting concepts and a nice, self-conscious twist on the tired vampire subgenre. Nice crisp, smooth art too.

No es la típica historia de vampiros, en este caso es una historia que contiene vampiros. Intriga y traiciones en un primer tomo bastante decente. Espero que la trama no decaiga.

Utterly brilliant. Took far too long for each issue to come out! If you like intrigue, vampires, and a new take on the genre, get this.

I enjoyed this quite a bit. I love when writers and artists take a new approach on Vampires or any other solidified genre. I highly recommend this book!
