One of the better Carly Phillips books I've read. I enjoy her stories, but I have to be in a certain mood to read something light like Phillips writes. This one was a solid 4-star, leaning toward 4.5 for me.

The base of this series is that many generations before, after one man stole another man's woman, a curse was placed on the Corwin family men saying that any man who married for love would lose his woman and his fortune. And in the years since, everything that has happened has seemed to suppo

Listened to the audiobook. The narrator was no bueno. This sounds ridiculous, but I just didn't like her voice. I think she would be better narrating mystery or horror. As for this one, it felt like my mom was reading me a romance...can you say uncomfortable? So this may have colored my view of the actual story.

This was okay, but easily forgettable. The whole curse thing was sort of hokey, and it was a major part of the storyline. The entire town is basically superstitious enough to b

I didn't read this for an official review, it was just a pleasure read. I liked it a lot. This is a first in a trilogy or series. The characters were relatable. The only thing was that the attraction and reunion seemed fast. The book was great in giving closure but leaving you wanting to read the others.

Lucky Charm is the first in the Lucky Trilogy about the Corwin Curse--all Corwin men will lose the women they love and their fortunes. We are introduced to Derek Corwin who gave up the love of his life, Gabrielle Donovan, at 18 because he didn't want anything bad to happen to her. Now, over a decade later, they meet again. He is divorced with an eleven-year-old daughter and an ex-wife he never loved. Gabrielle is determined to get Derek back by debunking the curse--that is what s

By Carly Phillips. #1 in Lucky Trilogy. Grade: C
I had heard a lot of things about Carly Phillips, most of it good. Getting tired with my usual contemporary romances whose stories are not offering anything new, I decided to try someone new. I was horribly disappointed.

I was extremely disappointed in this book. It didn't feel like a Carly book at all, and I've read just about all her books. This book didn't have the same flow as her Chandler brothers trilogy, it lacked the character connections that were in the Hot Zone trilogy, and the care free ways of the Costas Sisters books.

This book seemed forced and at times it felt like someone else wrote the book and just stuck Carly's name on the book. I'm going to read the last two books since there are only three,

Not a fan. I actually listened to the audiobook for this one. That may be why I didn't enjoy it. The narrator for this book was the same one that I had just listened to another book by, but in the other book she had played a child, so in Lucky Charm, I kept picturing a 12 year every time she would speak. Which really doesn't work in a romance book.

I also felt a little lost in that there seemed to be 2 stories going on, one with the main characters Gabby and Derek, as well as Gabby's friends Sha

If you love a great contemporary romance series, you'll love this Lucky trilogy. This one has great drama, suspense and plenty of romance. We're introduced to the Corwins, who were once cursed in love and fortune years ago. Each men had their share of misfortune. Derek's one of them who gave up his high school sweetheart. He's a down-to-earth caring man--he loves his pre-teen daughter and his family. When Gabrielle, his former flame, comes into town, sparks heat up again, when they defy the odds ...more

Had a hard time staying focused with this one. Too many eating scenes—not enough action. I actually liked the secondary characters, Sharon and Richard, better than the H/H because they grew throughout the story.

Super cute chic flick like story! Loved Gabrielle...she is so spunky! I loved all the characters actually, they all were very relatable. Great book!

In Stewart, Massachusetts, they were in love with one another through high school. However, upon graduation, Derek ended his relationship with Gabrielle though he still believed she was his soul mate. He dropped her out of fear of the Corwin Curse that has haunted all his male ancestors since witch Mary Perkins cursed the family in the nineteenth century when a member eloped with the fiancée of her son; Mary declared the Corwin males would lose their beloved and their fortune.

Derek did marry, b

I wanted to like this novel; I really did. It’s been a while since I’ve read an M/F romance and, on the surface, this one seemed to have all the right ingredients: a studly man, an attractive, sexually willing, woman and a conflict destined to throw them together if it didn’t tear them apart. The description of a witch’s curse also seemed an alluring addition, raising this just a bit over your average story of second-chance romance.

So why wasn’t I as thrilled as usual? Why did the sex scenes—ve

The basic concept shows promise: Derek Corwin's fear of a centuries-old family curse kept him from marrying Gabrielle, his high-school sweetheart. Years later, divorced and struggling to connect with his pre-teen daughter, Derek is caught between fear and passion when Gabby comes back into his life, determined to de-bunk the curse and renew their relationship.

But between immature characters, flat dialogue, a weak resolution and the disturbing, rampant misconception that lust equals love, this bo

This was my first book by Carly Phillips. I was really expecting a good story, but this just didn't do it for me.

It wasn't a memorable book. Not good... and not bad, either. It may also have to do with my book preferences now, maybe if I had picked up this book a few years ago, it might've been something I would've enjoyed. Don't know.

I had a problem with the hero and how he handled his relationship with his daughter, specially when Gabrielle starts coming into the picture. And the daug

Meh. Honestly, I don't have much to say about this book except that I was bored to tears when I read it. I kept hoping for more: more humor, more character growth, more plot... but no. Also, what in the heck was the deal with that extra storyline for Sharon??? I did not get that at ALL and mostly it just slowed down the story. If you want to have more than one storyline, take a page from Susan Elizabeth Philips and make it meaningful.

I didn't spend money on this, which is basically the

This is probably the worst book I have ever read from Carly Phillips. At the beginning, I was really looking forward because it was funny and had a good start overall. But then...yeah well...

The characters are stupid, dumb, flat as a single paper and just annoying. I am still wondering if they have anything else on their mind than sex. Because this whole book is just about to get into someone's pants. The so called "plot" is practically non-existent. And don't let me even start on this annoying

Lucky Charm is book one of the new Corwin Cousins trilogy. In this first book, we meet Derek, a man in pursuit of his long lost love Gabrielle. Derek turned Gabrielle away years ago because he was in love with her. If this seems odd, it's really not. Derek and the men in his family have been cursed to lose their wives should they marry for love. It is for this reason that he turned Gabrielle away yea

I hated the last Carly Phillips book I read. A friend talked me into giving her another chance and I did. Lucky Charm is a wonderful love story with a touch of mystery and humor. My kind of book.

Derek gave Gabrielle, his first love, the heave-ho the day after prom. He wanted to spare her, and himself, the evil effects of his family's curse. Well, life didn't work out so hot for old Derek, even after making the noble sacrifice. Life for Gabrielle was spent trying to find someone she could love mo

I was excited about this book and the series as well. I started reading and it was very slow, hard to sink into and I was the biggest fan of the heroine. But thought give it a chance. I read the First 100 pages or so and still I it felt as if I were at the very beginning. The issues hadn’t change they were still talking about the exact same issues after 100 or so pages that they were on page one. That’s when I did something I hardly ever do. I skipped pages and not just a few like 200 of them. I ...more

This was another 'listen to at work' audiobook. I found myself so engaged with the story that I'd come home and pop my headphones back on in order to listen. Gabrielle is a fierce, go-getter who won't take no for an answer. She knows what she wants and she won't back down. Unfortunately, what she wants is Derek, a man whose let a family curse keep him from the only woman he's ever loved. There's a bit of a mystery woven throughout the story, but it's light on the suspense. Holly, Derek's daughte ...more

NOt bad. The story of the curse could be deepened, the whole story a bit too light. And some of the characters were more good for a comedy than a book.

Onto the next one.

I liked this book fairly well. It is the first in the Lucky Series by Phillips. There were parts that I thought were a little slow, but all in all I liked the book. Gabrielle is a writer that was dumped by one of the Corwin men back in the day because he and the other men in his family think that there is a curse put on them from ages ago, that won't let them find and keep happiness. The premis is good, but at times I felt that there was no rationale for their thinking, and it kind-of got on my ...more

2.5. I normally really love Carly Phillips but I was very disappointed in this book. It was boring, I didn't care for the characters or the storyline and the dialogue was completely unoriginal and just like any old cheap Harlequin. This also may have been an unfortunate victim of a bad narrator for an audiobook-she was annoying and it just did not work for a romance novel. Mostly because I have read her books before and I enjoyed them, and I have hope that the next ones will be better, will I co ...more
