I so so wanted to give this three stars. The writing's good. I liked the main characters. They felt real. The sex scenes, while not terribly erotic were almost poetic. There wasn't much cheese (well, apart from in Gabby's job in the cheese industry...). All good things. But it was destroyed by the sob stories. All the sob stories. So. Many. Fucking. Sob stories. I really hate sob stories. So something bad happened to you. That's sad, but it doesn't make you a better person or a more compelling h...more

Beyond Control was not my favorite book. The writing was the style where the author is way too descriptive. Way too many details that don't matter. The style that I really don't like. I can never figure out exactly what it is that drives me crazy, but it is the description. I can never quite figure out what it is, how the author is describing things differently than what I like, but it annoys me. The story is set in Seattle and at the beginning it felt like the auth...more

Sometimes there are things that are beyond control. Beyond his control...beyond her control...beyond anyone’s control. That is just the way life goes. Nothing is certain. We must appreciate what we have in the here and now. Especially when it comes to love. That is the lesson that Gabby has to learn the hard way.

This book was something else. I loved it oh so much and was happy with every aspect of it up until the very end. Well not so much the end...but I will get to that in a bit. For now lets...more
I absolutely loved this book and I am over the moon happy that Karice decided to go outside of her comfort zone to write it. I have read every book Karice has written and she never disappoints. Her ideas are unique. She can take an overdone genre and make it her own.

This book was just amazing. I loved how dysfunctional the family is. I loved how quickly I fell in love with both main characters. I loved how fun the supporting characters were. Their personalities were so believable and the entire...more

So Courtney emailed me as soon as she finished Beyond Control, and her enthusiasm had me curious. I'd a few of Karice Bolton's Paranormal YA books and enjoy her writing. Beyond Control is another good story from Bolton.

Like Courtney, I really liked the characters quite a lot. I admired Gabby's feisty personality. She was funny and bold, but also timid when it comes to taking chances. I enjoyed Jason even more. He was mysterious, nice, and sexy. Oh, and the fact he builds customs motorcycles was...more

I want to dare she leave us with that Damn cliffhanger Like that....I could cry...again. This was a very good book about following your dreams, believing in love, and forgiveness... I definitely did not get enough of Gabby and Jason...not by a long shot. And as far as Aaron and Brandy go...I can't wait for them to have their own story. I completely feel short changed..not because it wasn't a good story but because I definitely did not get enough. There is another book coming out con...more

Okay, so after those last 2 other disastrous books, I just had to fall back on something simple. This book is just that...and be's CHEESY!! But I thoroughly enjoyed it and read it without putting it down!

Halfway through the book I kind of figured out the "coup de grâce" but even so, it didn't take away the "pleasure" of the read. If you looking for a relaxing easy read, then go for this one! (Only if you are into cheesy romance though)

Even though Gabriele (Gabby) comes from a very wealthy family, she hasn’t really had an easy life. Her mom died of cancer when she was just twelve after a long hard battle. One that she went through with her older brother Aaron by her side every step of the way. He was her best friend and the one person that she knew that she could always count on but when she lost her mom, she also lost Aaron. He disappeared right after her mom’s funeral without a good bye spoken or even a letter to explain why...more

Book Review: Beyond Control (Beyond Love Series #1)
By: Karice Bolton

I truly enjoyed reading this book. It reminded me that life happens as it's meant to no matter how much you try to control the outcome. And that trying to control life just prolongs true happiness. The story proves the healing of forgiveness. The story also reminds us how important it is to do what you love. It's proof that once you let go, forgive your past, and stop trying to control everything in your life the universe magica...more

I really loved this book! I loved the way the author wrote the story, and the inner dialogue Gabby had with herself. I had a feeling I knew what might happen about 1/2 way through the book or so, but I had to keep reading. :-). I just loved the LOVE and romance and sweetness of the leading man! I had downloaded a free copy of this book not too long ago, and decided to read it on Saturday. Stayed up all night because I couldn't put it down! I was a bit frustrated with the cliff hanger ending, see...more
I quite enjoyed the story of control freak and unwilling corporate employee Gabby finding her true self through Jason, bike builder extraordinaire and closet millionaire (I was worried briefly that he'd turn out to be a blue collar man but fortunately my fears weren't realised).
They were both interesting characters but I'm afraid I didn't really feel any chemistry between them and the sex scenes completely lost me - the language was peppered with flowery euphemisms that left me scratching my hea...more

I wasn't expecting such an involved beautiful story just based on the title. Such incredibly developed characters you really get to know. I loved Gabby and her fierce, but realistic personality, who has endured so much but never comes across as pitiful. I think we'd all love a friend like her. And most leading men in a story, he's a dream come true. But this dream is also someone realistic. He could be any guy you pass on the street, with a heart wrenching backstory. And w...more

This book was a spur of the moment purchase for me! I normally plan out when I am going to buy books and blah blah, but I was on Karice’s website, saw this book and hit PURCHASE. I don’t know why – it’s like something was telling me “READ THIS NOW!” So I did :) — While the book was a different pace for me compared to what I normally read, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Gabby has been through the ringer. Literally, the ringer. She’s gone through things some of us pray that we never have to go through an...more

So well written, the author did a spectacular job creating this story. I absolutely loved this book and will probably reread this book over and over again it was that good. The characters were well written and were relatable, couldn't have asked for a better read.

really a wonderful romance, you experience a lot while getting to know Gabby and Jason's story, it seemed that no matter how hard she tried resist him and keep her emotions in check, the universe had other plans, plans that she had no c...more
Really enjoyed this book but was seriously annoyed with the cliffhanger. I have been trying to reduce the # of my unread books in my kindle library and felt after reading the description that it wouldn't end up in a cliffhanger leading to the next book. I don't mind purchasing books in series which I do frequently but just wanted to get into non series books for a while. Oh well. Sorry, I digressed. The book was very good. I really liked all the characters and the complexity of some of them. The...more

I liked the book. The description does tell you exactly what's coming.

I am really glad there was background on the family dirt. Who doesn't like family secrets? It really helps the story come along. With that said the book is filled with everything you could be looking for. There is humor, emotion, and romance. You have complete understanding of what and how Gabby and Jason are feeling throughout the book.

It did take a bit for me to really invest in the book. Gabby can be a little on the immatu...more
This was a good read but seemed like something was missing. It was going well then when the big reveal happened it was like I was on the outside looking in on a secret communication going on and missed it totally. I never understood why her reaction and response was as such. Then he just stood there, clearly still in shock and guilt (maybe), and let it all happen. Then she got it, wanted him back and he said OK... The reveal was a little off for me.

There are some funny parts and the writign wasa...more
I had to filter myself before I wrote this...I was really bored reading this had some good points but not much and its more G-Rated if you are looking for steamy and anti-climatic. I have yet to touch the second book...I will eventually get to it I guess. She did fight for her man but not sure if it was really a fight.

Spoiler Alert: It did bring home that life is short and SHTUFF happens and it happens to good people...enjoy your loved ones, cherish them, they can be taken away soo qui...more
I really enjoyed this book - very well written. Everytime I encountered a question after reading, the answer would shortly follow. All the loose ends were covered and all the details and background were provided to create a really understandable, wholistic, easily to follow read. Only wish it had been a bit more sexy/exciting/climatic, bit mild overall (she came to terms with really big emotional events too quickly involving her Dad and brother), but all in all really liked the characters and th...more
Gabby was only twelve when her mother died. Then her older brother left without a word. Ten years later, Gabby is working at one of her father's company & hates it. A fund raising event is being put on by her father & step-mother and she is required to attend. On the way, the limo is in a fender-bender & that's when she gets her first glimpse of Jason. Who is he? But what she doesn't know is that she will see him again at the event but not as an attendee. But what they don't know is...more
A good late night read.

I enjoyed listening (bought the audio and kindle version of the book) to the book and it was interesting but I wasn't wowed by it. It is pretty much the normal romance story of a man meets woman, both of them have bad thing happen to them in the past and they affect their relationship. It was a good relaxing read even though I've seen a movie with a similar base line. I am actually more interested in the second book about Brandy and Aaron, so I will for sure read the rest...more

Being a fan of Karice Bolton, I was more than willing to read and review this book. I had only read her paranormal, but she does romance really great, so I was really excited to dive into this new adult book. It was a very touching and emotional story. A bit predictable, but still incredibly good. Let me warn you in advance though, if you are not a fan of cliffhangers, I would hold off on reading this until at least the next book is out. This is not just a cliffhanger, it's an "OMG YOU CAN'T BE...more

Gabby is out of college and working at her father’s company, not exactly where she wants to be at exactly. Gabby decides that she needs to stay there to make sure her father is happy and besides, who else is going to keep the company going after her father? Not her brother, he left when she was just a kid and that’s not the worst part, it was immediately after their mother passed away from cancer, leaving poor Gabby alone and without her best fr...more

I got this one for review a while back and I was anxious to read it. I've heard good things about it and I enjoy Bolton's YA Paranormal series, so I was hoping I'd like this one too. And I did. Quite a bit.

Gabby. I liked her. She's a strong character. She's dealt with a lot in life and I had sympathy for her. Especially, the more I got to know her and her story. She had to deal with the loss of her mother and her brother leaving all at the same time. I can imagine how confusing and hurtful that...more

Beyond Control is another superb novel from author Karice Bolton. The characters in Beyond Control are magnetic; they pulled me into their story and did not release me until I had read the very last word. I am not even sure if I am completely unattached from the story quite yet, and probably will not be until I find out what happens in Beyond Doubt. The beauty of Gabby and Jason story is captivating, and even with the obstacles they face their love story overcomes.

Gabby is a very independent wo...more
I was over the moon when I received a copy of Karice Bolton’s new novel although I was a little worried that I wouldn't enjoy it, because I am not usually a fan of stories based solely on romance. I wanted to give it a go, because I absolutely love all of Karice's other books, especially the Watchers Trilogy (I am definitely more a fan of the fantasy/ paranormal books.)
Although I thought the novel started off quite slow, I appreciated this was to get the reader involved with the main character,...more

"You're not fragile. You're not broken. You don't need to be fixed. You're perfect the way you are."

At its core, Beyond Control is about love, fate and second chances. Gabby and Jason both have a complicated history - a history they are each trying to move on from. They meet each other thanks to a tiny fender bender one night and neither of them will be the same after that. Both Gabby and Jason are broken. Gabby is still dealing with the death o...more
