A great Halloween read, especially when trying to decide on a costume ;-) I think the monster illustrations would have really scard me as a little kid (and they're still scary to me now!) but it's very well done.

Fun Halloween read about choosing the right costume. The monster pictures were pretty scary and may be too much for some children.

My son hunts for Halloween books (with their special pumpkin sticker on the spine) in the library, so we read about Halloween year-round. I must admit, while Halloween is fun, I am a little tired of the topic. However, we all chuckled while reading Algernon Graeves today.

Algernon has an extremely vivid mental picture of what he wants to look like, which contrasts sharply with the actual end-product costume. That happens so often to me: I see something in my mind and am excited to do it/make it/e

Algernon Graeves tries to come up with the scariest costumes he can think of, but the reality always falls short of his expectations.

Note: Better for an older kid because the monster illustrations are scarier than alot of picture books out there.

An excellent Halloween read. The artwork is fantastic, and the parade of monsters is delightfully spooky.

Soren wanted this one read daily. The contrast between the scary pictures and the funny cartoon pictures seemed really delightful to him.

My six-year-old picked this one up at the library. Poorly written text seems only to serve as a vehicle for delivering greusome Halloween art. Not a book for young children.
