Off the wrong track and onto the right one

John B McIntyre tells all like it was and like it is and the journey is a short book about a life dissected by bad choice that eventually heals. One aspect of the book (a true memoir) that makes it even more compelling is the manner of writing: McIntyre fills almost every page with bad decisions in such repetition that at first the reader wants to scream (along with his police officer father and mother) that enough is enough - make something work instead

Youthful invincibility mixed with peer pressure and testing boundaries while searching for a meaning and purpose in life can lead to trouble. Learned behavior during those rebellious youth-to-adult years too easily becomes the mainstay later in life. The terror of war and love of big money lure you back to what and who you know. One wrong turn leads to another, and breaking the cycle seldom occurs. Written by one courageous and strong-willed man, this book describes his escapades and then his ...more

When I started reading this book I thought OMG! This kid is a total human train wreck! But as I got further into the book I started to think what a tragedy and being a parent myself I could not help but feel so sad for him and his parents. I was brought to tears and could not believe everything John went through and how every time he got pushed into the deep dark hole he found inner strength to climb back up. This story is about courage, love, human spirit and how we can be so fragile yet so ...more

John McIntyre is not a deep thinker. He did not write this little book in order to become rich or famous. One is tempted to believe he may have written it as a condition of his parole.

This is a 'lessons learned' type of book told in the first person – a memoir I suppose. McIntyre won't win any creative writing awards but I admire his honesty and effort to share his story in hopes of making a difference in someone else's life. He presents his life from age 12 through 50 as an object lesson, an e

A great story about a young man who probably had parents that would have done anything to ensure his success, yet he went down the wrong path. He ended up turning his life around and turned out to be a very inspirational man who enjoys helping young teens make better decisions than he had. This book was written with all the right and motivational reasons. Very interesting read and would definitely recommend it to anyone, never a dull moment throughout.

John's memoir is told straight from the heart. Much of it tragic, some very humorous.... as only his true life has been. His struggles from the bottom of the pit back up to the surface of life kept my interest.... I read the whole book in one sitting. Very well done.

Very inspiring to read how John turned his life around. How cool if his story could help others avert the difficulties and challenges he experienced.
